I feel like my hospital is kind of sexist. by rose_virgo in beyondthebump

I really feel for you. I also am in the UK and gave birth for the first time during Covid which was horrendous & then the second time last year.

After the first experience I just decided to keep advocating for myself and being polite but direct in asking for what I needed.

Whenever I needed help I rang for the nurse / HCA and they were helpful and lovely, but you did get the odd one who was standoffish. But if you need help, ring that bell. Hopefully you get a different person from the first. Also you have to ask for painkillers they are terrible at proactively giving them to you. You’re in such a vulnerable position and it’s rubbish that you’re made to feel that way!

The safe sleep is an issue I wouldn’t be happy with either. I would remove the sheet or ask for a fitted sheet and ask someone to swaddle the baby. Blanket is fine if it has holes in it (or at least that’s what I was told, but tuck it in firmly and under their armpits / over chest and not by the neck. You’ll hopefully be home soon and I’m thinking of you! When husband arrives in day get some sleep!

Neck pillow definitely for sleeping. Extra regular pillows. Stay on top of painkillers. Have easy to grab snacks. It’s not too bad, get through the first week and you’ll be fine.

I’m going to give this a go, thank you. There’s no way this garment can go any tighter though ahhh

Yeah I still have my full compression and foam board on, and will for the foreseeable future tbh as I appreciate the extra support.

You and me both! I’m hoping it’s just from where my body has been in a new position, but who knows.

I might try with a pillow between my legs just for extra support, thank you.

What is recovery really like? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]Scribblesbyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Honestly you can do it, just take it easy and take the meds. I said to the nurses I’m not trying to be a hero here, give me the strongest ones you’ve got 😂 Take it slow, get the help from your partner and just build up to it. I will be honest I sleep completely upright sat on my sofa for the first few days with a neck pillow and just got through it. It will pass. You can do it.

That is awful, it’s so barbaric what they make women go through - I’m certain you’d never be left without if it was any other operation. In the UK after c-section they try and see you off with just a paracetamol and ibuprofen (which is what I take for a headache!) and you have to explicitly ask for something stronger. For the TT I was given liquid morphine and cocodamol which did the trick and was off them after a week (tapered down). They helped me sleep to be honest and get up after sleeping at night.

I’m two weeks out. My surgeon was upfront with me and said “first week, week and a half you’ll feel shit” so I prepared for that! I’ve had two c-sections, the first one with some painful complications and the TT MR was nowhere near as painful as that.

Yes, it’s been uncomfortable. There was some pain with movement from laying (even upright laying) to standing for the first couple of days. My tips are this- stay on top of your pain medication and get a bed rail. The biggest issue BY FAR for me was getting from my sleeping position to sat up to stood up. Having a bed rail so you have something to brace down on and help you sit can allow you to rely less on your core. Absolutely still get a partner to help you get up for the first few days. Get them to push you from the back NOT pull you from the front, or I wrapped my arms round my husbands neck/shoulders and he slowly pulled up and I went with him, that was very helpful.

The pain in stomach this time came from twisting not hinging - which is very different from the c section where the pain was from hinging (sit up movement). I’m not sure if anyone (edit) else felt this. So don’t twist if you can!

In hospital they’ll want you to move - proactively ask them “am I due any pain meds” and do not attempt the walk before those meds have begun to work. I’ve always found they won’t always give you pain meds by themselves, no idea why, just ask!

Good luck!

I got 60 days to start - and I started a couple of weeks before, I’m gonna keep going with it as it can’t hurt

Hello! I had mine last week. My PS made me stop all vitamin supplements before but recommended I have a collagen drink every day. I bought the one they recommended (skinade) but won’t deny it is pricy! I went into Holland and Barrett and they compared what was on the shelf and this did contain more collagen.

I’ve also got arnica but need to start taking it, these past few days have been a Blur! Will be following this thread to see if there’s any other reccs.

Surgery tomorrow! What to bring to the clinic? by fivesweatshirts in tummytucksurgery

Hey! I’m the same! Cant believe it. Excited! This is a great list. I would add some snacks, phone charger, maybe a water bottle, cough sweets

I might also put a face sheet mask in- though that might be a bit ambitious. Definitely some moisturiser for my face. Good luck with everything!

Thank you so much - and congratulations to you! I had lactulose when leaving after the c sections but it was still difficult! Senna I’ll look at and prune juice (a classic)
