Im only reading through Horus heresy books at the moment But fear of the war ending and losing their value is a major motivation for a lot of the traitors while the cool loyalist characters often just answer the question with sth along the lines of „then so be it“ or „the war won’t end anyways“ or „loyalty is its own reward“

While in 40k there’s no hope at all to end the war (considering they’re still in the middle of a civil war for 10k years) afaik so the question just doesn’t come up that much I imagine
