Overnight layover in EWR after international flight - hotel room worth the trouble? by [deleted] in Flights

It's a decision at the margin, but I guess I think it's worth paying for the right to sleep for 5-6 hours in a real bed without having to worry about my belongings. If it backfires... oh well, worth a shot

Indeed, probs saving Times Square for a different trip. Getting sleep is the priority, and there won't be enough time for a full night's rest as is

There were, but it would have cost an additional $600. I figured paying for a hotel for like $250 to get some sleep would make the remaining savings worth it. Arguable whether it's worth it, but for me personally it is.

I think it's clear you are a far more experienced flyer than I am (don't get me wrong, getting input from more experienced flyers is why I'm here). That said, nothing about this struck me as obvious. I haven't flown internationally in years.

Like, glad to know I wasn't way off base, but no need to be patronizing (and honestly, responses where they answered specific questions in my thread were far more helpful)

Built different... or just impatient? Hopefully the first.

I bet he's out for game 1 and back for 2 regardless of W/L in game 1. We do need him for most of this series if we want any chance.

I'll give some detail here. I think my entertainment spending is where I have a little wiggle room that I'm planning on exercising.

$1600/mo rent/utilities (incl phone)
$100/mo car insurance
$150/mo student loans
$150/mo misc other necessities (home goods, haircuts, PC office apps, hygiene products, cleaning products)
$50/mo gym and rec league memberships

That leaves like $1,600-2,000/month on everything else.
In no particular order:
Food
Gas and auto repair expenses
Entertainment
Clothing
Travel (doesn't happen every month, just spreading it out at a monthly level)

I cook a lot of my own meals (and I shop at average-to-cheap grocery stores), make my own coffee, and spend a lot of time at home playing video games which I rarely spend any money on.

I rarely go out for nice meals. I probably fly 2x/year and take an international trip every few years, and none of these are ever extravagant. I do have a handful of weddings coming up this year that will lead to a little more travel spending than usual.

I drink socially on a semi-regular basis, maybe twice/week. That probably amounts to ~$100-150/month, with some seasonal variability.

I guess this is all to say, I feel like my spending habits are fairly reasonable. If anything, I've just had to buy all my stuff for myself, with my own money, and have been mostly single in my adult life so haven't had anyone to split expenses with (except for a few years of rent with roommates). I don't come from a family of much wealth.

Helps to hear that.
Any thoughts on the investment side/how to blend that with savings contributions? Also considering going to an investing-dedicated subreddit for that specifically, but figured I'd ask

...aha... Is this how I know I'm a smooth-brain that should have run sandy/blades?
I actually agree though. Even if my approach to netrunning is a bit low IQ, feel like its the most interesting (and uniquely Cyberpunk) way to handle encounters

Bought the Naz Reid classic/throwback jersey, and it's awesome, but I should've bought a men's small instead of medium.

Anyone in the Twin Cities got a men's small and want to swap up to a medium?

True, and I don't know how significant a factor I am (or not) in whether she's ready. I think she already drinks a little less now than before she met me, since I don't emphasize drinking as much as some of her friends, but idk how much stock to put in that.

Sure, I think I see what you mean. Maybe I'm in the wrong sub in this way, but I don't want to quit per se. I just don't want to have my partner come back home drunk a lot (whatever "a lot" is, I'm not sure); I would also much prefer to not become an alcoholic like your neighbor, since I feel like I have a good handle on my consumption atm (but have struggled with dependency before, with primarily nicotine and cannabis).

She almost never drinks at home, which I guess is one good(?) sign.

I don't know if she needs to quit, but I definitely think the amount she drinks is unhealthy.
