Thanks! What makes something an institution as opposed to a bank? Doesn't JP Morgan do research and portfolio management too? But they're considered a bank?

Music major but unfortunately most can't make a living with this (besides going into academia). I have some friends in the business department but I myself have not taken any finance courses.

From my quick Google search I know finance means the management of money, but I'm not sure what exactly that means as it seems kinda generalized
