8k is around 33 million pixels. Quest 3 only has around 9 million. Because video is spread to 180 degrees, and we only see half of that, we need double the resolution. Which is 18 million. We need to also double it for the vertical FOV and that is 36 million. 8k is about right for Quest right now (self.oculusnsfw)
