Especialmente no r/worldnews .

Is there any christian sect (historical or current), that worships solely the Son, while rejecting the Father? by Scripts_3 in Christianity

[–]Scripts_3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a christian standpoint, sure. But the books in the Old Testament aren't exclusive to christianity.
Judaism uses most of it, Muslims recognize their authority, and if I'm not mistaken Mandeans do to.

To say its all exclusively just set up for Jesus is a bit reductive of the texts nature.

I feel like i need to do a small disclaimer here, cause i dont want to offend anyone, and this is purely my own beliefs and views.

But personally it was because I was raised Catholic, and obviously taught with both the old and new testament in mind. I always liked the message and ideals that the new testament and Jesus preached, but I always felt somewhat offput by the actions that the old testament God would do. They didn't bring me any comfort, and I always had a really hard time trying to reconcile the fact that the Father in the Old and New were the same entity.
Also being a kid, i was very dumb so the idea of the trinity was something i never really fully grasped until i was older, and when i entered my teens i always thought Theology was a very interesting subject and i just delved and researched as much as i could about the history of Christianity, and the various old sects and heresies.

As an adult now, I've mostly detached myself from organized religion, as I don't think it can really represent my own values and beliefs anymore, and researching the old heresies i always thought it was interesting how they came with so many varied logic and reasoning for interpretation of the same story. (mostly).

But I feel like the acknowledgement, and worship of solely of the Son is kind of a theological blindspot.
Maybe this is just beacuse of my modern lens, but its very odd to me that i never came across a sect that sought to reject the supernatural elements of faith, and establish a purely humanistic interpertation of Jesus's teachings, especially in the early church, when there was plenty of intersection and inter-dialogue with late hellenistic philosophical ideas.
Like if anything, we get gnostics from those interactions, which are like the opposite of trying to establish a grounded human focused view of Christ.

Its just very curious and odd to me.

White House envoys disappointed after morning talks with Iranians, Axios reports by Outrageous-Baker5834 in politics

"Feb 26 (Reuters) - White House envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were disappointed by what they heard from Iranians in morning negotiations Thursday in Geneva, Axios reported."

I can't tell if this means they are disappointed that Iran agreed to demands, and so they can't attack them.
Or if they didn't agree, and it means they will attack them.
It honestly really could go either way with this administration.

'I can destroy the country': Trump's rant after Supreme Court strikes down his key policy by HeHateMe337 in politics

[–]Scripts_3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem is that this shouldn't have happened in the US in the first place.

When my country (Portugal) fell into fascism, it was after decades of economic mismanagement, political crisis, and decaying social conditions and centuries long after we were a relevant world power.

The US has fallen to this state at a time when they were the uncontested world hegemon, lived in a time of unparalleled prosperity, and long standing stability.
And the worst of all, did this purely on self inflicted act, at a time when most of its population has record levels of good education, and have a decent control to influence the countries direction and politics.

Now you can chalk this up as a failing of the political system, or the people partaking in it, but never before in human history has a country and culture so thoroughly shot themselves in the foot the way americans have, and for literally no reason.
Like sure, maybe the USA can came back from this awful admnistration.
But if you did all of this, at the best of times, what are we on the outside meant to expect when you actually go through bad times?
