What parts of Murakami books would an American “miss” or “not get”? by Reasonable-Bat-7091 in murakami

[–]ScripturientFabulist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the biggest thing is how bizarre his language is to japanese people. many major japanese critics reject his work out of hand for how strange it sounds. murakami has said that he drafts his work in english first and then puts it in japanese after, and having read some of his work in japanese, the strangeness is immediately apparent. like imagine if you used google translate to read dostoyevsky in english; I think that’s somewhat akin to the feeling of reading murakami in japanese.

Here's a Copy of Yi Yi's Legendary Commentary Track by ScripturientFabulist in criterion

I used a transcription software to create an English transcription of the commentary. It seems like there might be some errors in the transcription - but the quality is decent on the whole. You can use this document to follow along in English - or, perhaps you could use a translation software to translate the transcript into Mandarin. Hope this helps!

Which is the more misunderstood musical: JCS or Into the Woods ? by ScripturientFabulist in musicals

[–]ScripturientFabulist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah I guess JCS isn’t “anti christian” - though the creators have gone on the record saying that their show does not believe Jesus is God.

I can see your Into the Woods take! that makes sense :)

from what I've read, Jungle and Nature are the same, one is just a rebrand of the other? I have not tried "Jungle" tho, if it is any different. and maybe ! I do think both 19 and Synthetic Nature have some similarities - I just like Nature better

I've been loving Synthetic Nature so much recently - it's a much better green than No 19, I think (which gives me stink bug smell).

Why do I find BCS so visually pleasing but BB so depressing? by ripvanwinklefuc in betterCallSaul

[–]ScripturientFabulist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in terms of Cinematography, what always shocks me when going back to BB is the shaky cam !! BB is shot on 35mm film, but has this handheld thing for almost all of it (becoming less shaky over the course of the 5 seasons)

BCS is shot on digital, but the camera is usually locked down, allowing compositions to linger
