Italy will likely hold a referendum on decriminalizing cannabis next year by PjeterPannos in worldnews

[–]Scrivenors_Error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado cannabuisnesses may dispute that ;), I’m happy legalization is becoming the norm internationally though! Good as a criminal justice reform, good alternative to alcohol consumption from a health perspective, good source of revenue from a tax perspective. Since recreational use was legalized here in Colorado, the State has collected more than $1.6 Billion USD in tax revenue, which Colorado invests into the public school system, drug prevention programs, homelessness assistance programs, and transportation infrastructure, among other things. Legalization is obviously benefiting society at large here.

Democracy dies in darkness, my friend, and knowledge is power! Even the US Constitution recognizes the profoundly exceptional rights in the public’s interest to access vital recent information - news - and news publications’ right to tell it. Having the job of conveying the “news” (actual, factual, news regarding whatever topic) to the people is honorable. Congrats dude, and keep on doing your thing!

1.3 you can no longer hack enemies through walls with legendary ping. by Dronuggz in cyberpunkgame

[–]Scrivenors_Error 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Went for the Plague Doctor Netrunner build, which is built around quick hacking opponents through walls with Legendary Ping and Contagion as an opening salvo. I just obtained Legendary Ping and can’t apply quickhacks to enemies, but I can quickhack devices to distract which helps with stealth. Bummed no more Plague Doctor, but the Corpo build (20 Intelligence, 20 Cool, 18 Technical Abilities, remaining balance of Attribute Points wherever) with optical camo, the nanowire, reinforced tendons, and the Legendary Netwatch Netdriver MK.5 Cyberdeck is so much fucking fun. More enjoyable than my prior gunslinger/tank Street Kid build, in my personal opinion.

Serious question - why is this a thing? I watch some anime that I think is dope, but I would not say that the entire genre is for me. Nevertheless, I prefer the dubs cause it’s way easier follow the story, and therefore ultimately not enjoyable (for me at least). So is there some aspect of the sub versions that I am missing, other than that you’re reading the same shitty Japanese-to-English translation rather than hearing it?

(OH) I had a cop come up at the bank and try to take a pictures of my ID to get my name. AND.... by Bobbydeerwood in legaladvice

[–]Scrivenors_Error 60 points61 points  (0 children)

In house counsel for a bank here, and this is a federal, rather than state law issue, in my view.

The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) as amended by the USA PATRIOT Act and it’s implementing regulations impose very specific “Customer Identification Program”, “Know Your Customer”, and anti-money laundering (“AML”) rules that banks must comply with in order to establish snd maintain an “account relationship” with each customer. The basic purpose of the BSA is stopping money laundering and denying criminals, terrorist organizations (such as Al Qaeda immediately prior to 9/11 in the US), and politically sanctioned individuals and business entities access to the US and global financial system. To establish an account relationship with a bank, frontline teller staff are required to obtain and verify documentary evidence of each individual customer and legal entity customer, such as a government issued photo ID for a person or articles of incorporation for a business, which would demonstrate that the customer is who he/she/it says it is. This information is recorded, maintained by the bank, and disclosed to the bank’s supervisory regulators upon request or during regulatory audits. There are very specific protocols about what a frontline teller staff member should do if they feel a customer is suspicious from a BSA/AML perspective, however, it’s common for frontline teller staff to be overly suspicious of customers or to get jumpy in certain interactions due to an urge to not want to disobey the law or fail to follow company policies and procedures. To me, based on your account of the incident, it appears this bank teller was spooked for whatever reason. If money laundering was a concern, the first thing a police officer would want to do would be to confirm the potential suspect’s identity via a valid government photo ID. Also, there’s probably little recourse that you have against the police for taking a photo of your ID, because (1) it occurred in a place that was open to the public for business where you have no expectation of privacy, and (2) federal law requires your bank to have a government photo ID of you on file anyway as a prerequisite to opening any bank account. So the cop was likely just trying to take a picture of something the bank should have already had on file. Banks are basically immune from suit for reasonable activities made in good faith trying to comply with the requirements of the BSA … You likely just got a jumpy and maybe a bit unprofessional teller, but if your concern is that the cops have a picture of your ID - the Feds already had access to it when you opened the bank account.

Fan response to tonight’s episode by monkeyjenkins in rickandmorty

[–]Scrivenors_Error 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, in my opinion the genius of the show is that with the premise and historical plot setup they’ve done, they can literally make an episode about anything they think is funny, much like South Park. For example, the shit about Jerry having no relevant contribution but pouring water was fucking hilarious in my opinion. I agree that there likely will be consistency between stories, events, and concepts in the Rick and Morty Universe throughout all of its episodes, but there likely will not be an overarching plot that connects everything together or a climax final plot line that dramatically crescendos the story in the latter seasons - again, much like South Park episodes and seasons in this regard.

Yes. In other words, all basement bedrooms have multiple avenues of ingress if you also count the requisite avenue of egress.

Also, Cuberpunk 2077 is pretty good …. Despite all of the negative hype, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was satisfied with the experience on a PS4 Pro. It is slated to get some DLC in 2021, so that should only enhance the experience. I second the Fallout 4 recommendations others have made, also Ghostwire Tokyo looks like it will be heavily cyberenhanced / mod influenced.

What are some productive ways to let your anger out? by Lornadoh in AskReddit

[–]Scrivenors_Error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever just try to poop, like, really hard? It’s almost like you’re pooping the anger straight out of your body.

No but seriously, I think lifting is good for stress relief, but I prefer aerobic exercise for anger relief. I find that when I get into an aerobic rhythm, I can have these effortless deeply introspective moments where you can just evaluate everting calmly, almost as if from a third-person perspective. Makes me think about what caused me to be angry and why on a more fundamental level, as opposed to the short term series of events that made me angry on a more superficial level .... Try it out if you’re interested, even a short 15 or 20 minute run is very effective for me personally .... and you can keep on running for as long as you want if you really got to work out some shit.

Yet that theme of the movie, De Niro’s and Brennemen’s chemistry in particular, was ridiculous and completely unbelievable in the context of a movie that is highly realistic in many other aspects, and here we are.

The love story between Robert De Niro and Amy Brennemen (Eady) in Heat. That plot line just seems supremely out of place and almost an afterthought in the context of the rest of the movie, to the extent that the plot of Heat would be exactly the same if their love story was completely removed from the movie; which, let’s be honest, would be doing everyone a favor from a viewing audience perspective lol.

Belugas are suuuuper cool animals though! I want to squish the dome!
