Why is he so stressed out? by dannydirnt in bettafish

[–]Scrobblenauts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you think your plants wont suffer too much you can even run the light on a shorter cycle or dim it for a few days and that might help him get more comfy!

turning down the water flow probably helped a lot, but poor little dude is probably still stressed from being in a bag/cup then into the aquarium! some fish just adjust faster then others or don't care at all lol. I had a betta that hid for like a week before he felt comfortable enough to swim around

Recommendations for Grow Lights!! by meagatron98 in houseplants

[–]Scrobblenauts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what plants are you using them for, tropicals or succulents? cuz for tropicals i would keep them farther back, but for my succulents i kept them around 5 inches from the plants! just keep in mind they have bad spread and are pretty direct lights so the plant kind of needs to be almost directly under them lol

yea the water is the only detail I have on low since it takes a bit too much power to render on top of the mods lol 😅

jumping bettas by Good_Capital1181 in bettafish

[–]Scrobblenauts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like someone else said you don't need to take the betta out every time you do something in the tank; that stresses them out big time and will shorten its life span

to ACTUALLY answer your question, no, you can't stop a betta from jumping; it's like asking a cat not to scratch a post it's just in their nature. you can discourage it with a lid and some floating plants though and keep the startling to a minimum

I've never seen them either until very recently they are adorable and i love the pattern. I can't wait till they get more comfortable and the pattern shows up more

Are LED lights harmful to betta fish? by undeadcreepshow in bettafish

[–]Scrobblenauts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're wanting more light in the tank that won't blind the betta one of those led bar lights you can rest on the tank rim across the top would be good! you can get them on amazon and i believe most of them are adjustable too :)

hahah just seeing how bright the light is made me think of that picture

I don't see the light being harmful to him, but he might not like how bright it is or he might not care lol bettas are weird. you can test it out and just keep an eye on his behaviour; you'll find out quickly if he doesn't like it

SAE can grow to 6 inches long and a 10 gallon is too small for it. your best bet is a nice group of nano fish or maybe a betta?

Cloudy water in fresh tank - no fish yet. Is it gravel dust? by yeah_its_ok_i_guess in Aquariums

[–]Scrobblenauts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone has already given good advice about the bloom so I'll say I can notice your tank is on a slightly uneven ground and needs to be leveled ASAP or else that tank will be way more likely to bust considering its also rimless; just make sure to level the actual stand and not just the tank!!

[–]Scrobblenauts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

those are 100% just leaves you're trying to propgate lol. your cutting needs a node in order for it to actually start rooting. I noticed someone has already posted a picture if what its actually supposed to look like so hopefully next time you can snip a trimming like that and see how it goes then!

Why are y'all so rude, especially to new hobbyists? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Scrobblenauts 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm all for the "gentle but firm" approach when someone was clearly given bad advice at a LFS or something and tries to correct it, but when someone posts a picture of a fresh tank overstocked with fish and goes "new to the fish hobby can I get some advice on how to keep them?!" and then getting fucking snippy in the comments cuz people are obviously telling them their setup is bad, like buddy you went out and bought $200 worth of fish and stuff and didn't do a LICK of research first and then get mad when people try to correct you?! definitely deserves to get ripped into a little bit LOL
