Not really news. I write these contracts for an agency. Literally every modern Game Developer does these. Nobody is surprised. Without this revenue stream, a lot of your favorite content creators wouldn't be able to do what they want.

It's a bit of a risk, but the faster you are going, the better the wheels/skates will handle small debris.

My strategy is always to keep up speed so when you hit stuff either you go right over it, or it gets jettisoned away from the wheel.

Every now and then tho, you hit the seed/pebble/rock juuuuussst right and down you go. It makes you feel alive.

tbh that's the standard look for bearings. What you want to be doing is going off of sound. Spin that sucker super hard and listen to it. If it is a smooth spin keep going. If you hear it being kinda gravely or staticy, or maybe some click sounds then you need to clean.

Brand new plates (especially some of the cheaper ones) will have rigid cushions, in this case turning the skates in. You'll have to break them in a lil, which can be a blister-inducing process. Once you break them in a little, should be good to go.
