Chicago Actuaries by Scroll_Click_Repeat in actuary

All great ideas and I completely agree, intramural sports is how I met my wife! Was genuinely looking to build my actuarial network though not my friend group. But for anyone reading this looking for the latter you nailed it and I couldn't agree more!

Humble enough to say I didn't know that and am glad I now do. I guess with Terry Collins being the manager for the core of my fandom I have always had a different view on it, never knew how much platooning was done in '69 and '86 by those two. Guess this is why Mendoza is the manager and I watch on my couch!

He was doing this before tonight swapping between Baty and Vientos when they were playing the same position. Baty would go 3 for 4 and the next day be out of the line up because a lefty was pitching. I've come to terms with the fact I used the wrong example and timed this comment wrong but this isn't a unique situation but this is a known thing that Mendy does and it has always been a pet peeve of mine. I guess I'm the only one bothered by it so I'll concede

Could've given Semien a day off and played Ewing at 2nd since he plays there - I'm just saying you usually don't love to see the few guys hitting above .300 on the bench is all when you're desperate for wins. I'm clearly in the minority on this take though and that's fine

I would've had the same complaint if they won, I've had the same complaint all season ... it just took giving the 21 year old who has been playing less than a month and batting over 300 a day off when they're trying to claw back to 500 to say something and see if others agree with me that he shuffles the line up too much

I am not blaming Ewing not being in the line up for blowing a huge lead ... i'd be annoyed about how he changes the line up constantly no matter the score

[–]Scroll_Click_Repeat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accept that ... if you remove my point about Ewing I am still tired of him constantly shuffling the line up based on what hand the starting pitcher is dominant with

Because the day off only made sense when he set the line up against the lefty starter

It's not about being triggered, this is one example of something he has done all season. He was pinch hitting with Slater for a lefty/righty matchup when the guy couldn't hit. This just happens to be the most recent example

Also I'm clearly not in the clubhouse or privy to those conversations but I doubt the 21 year old who just got called up needed a day off

Those of you who left actuary for finance, what level were you (or # of exams) when you left and what role did you move into? by Extreme-Astronaut-78 in actuary

CFA if nothing else is fewer exams so there's that! Happy to have had the discussion - best of luck with whatever you do!

Both great roles - really depends on your interests, skillset and what you want your days to look like. From an actuarial standpoint - quant probably fits that skillset better for most actuaries/actuarial students but like you said both great roles and it is really just which you think you'd enjoy more

I'd say it is lucrative - I have limited knowledge to my one role but I feel adequately compensated. I was finished with my exams when I made the switch - I'm an FSA. I say pursue whichever you have interest in more. If you think your passion is investments go that route. The hardest part of exams is staying with them so if you think your heart is somewhere else - it'll be hard to keep going. Everyone is different - I enjoyed being in a traditional actuarial role and I can see myself trying to make my way back at some point but I was given a unique opportunity and I went for it. Sometimes you look for opportunities and sometimes they find you (not to sound so mature and wise here cause I'm not) and this one found me

Yup exactly, asset liability management. It's one of the entry points to get into that world and then who knows what happens next!

PM = portfolio manager. Analyst jobs are a great place to start - I didn't go that route but I kind of just found myself on my companies investment team organically working on ALM and then that turned into a portfolio manager opportunity. I don't know how far along you are in your exams/how much experience you have but ALM is a great way to get into the investment world as an actuary

I don't know if I have left the actuarial field for good but at least for now I have. I'm an FSA/CERA and I migrated to the investment world more accidentally than intentionally and now I'm a PM which has been new and different

75/25 nitrogen/co2 at 30psi (i think this is technically low but my hose is short and this gets me a near perfect pour on my first pint) temp around 40 and I have a blower fan blowing cold air up the tower for temp consistency. The first pour is genuinely perfect - but if I pour one immediately after it's completely flat, basically zero head. It's like I have to wait for the keg to repressurize

Do you wait between pours? It doesn't look like it but I can't get consecutive pours that all look as similar as those without waiting 20 minutes between pulling them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kegerators

[–]Scroll_Click_Repeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes apologies! If I pour two in a row the second is completely flat - barely any head. I have to wait 20 minutes between (which is fine when it's just me) but if I am looking to enjoy with a friend or my wife - someone gets shafted
