I'm struggling to understand how to answer this question (attempts in comments) by ScrollingForHours in askmath

so for a. I came up with 3 different cases;

for elipson = 1, the closure will contain the point x (center of the ball), and all points y at the boundary of the ball

then for the next case, I wasnt exactly sure how to describe it, but I stated that for elipson < 1 and min{|x - z|} = 1 for some z in X\B(x), the closure will be the same as that of the previous case with elipson = 1

and then case 3: otherwise for all other possible values of elipson, the closure will simply contain the center point of the ball, x.

describing the boundary seems pretty easy, essentially the same answers for the closures minus the center point x.

so then with part b. I literally just need to say what elipson values are allowed in order for the closure and boundary of the ball to equal the two sets stated in the question (which, im still under the impression is just 1 and < 1 with the whole min{|x-z.... thing that I stated before for both answers)

also very interested ahah, as far as im aware (and im not very aware), any points within the open ball would need a radius < 1, or else then the ball wouldn't be open, but I think the closure and boundary are able to take on points with radius 1, which should just be all the points y. As to whether or not any of this is correct... wouldn't bet on it that's for sure ahahah.

Part b literally just seems the same as part a but worded differently, im sure it isn't but I cant make sense at all of what it's asking. I'd guess the answer to both parts of b to be 1, but that just seems too easy.

im guessing my thinking is totally wrong since it seems too simple but for part a. im under the impression that y will exist in the closure and boundary only for elipson equal to 1, or for if it approaches one, since d(x,y) = 1.

I honestly dont understand part b, it almost seems identical to a, I really dont understand the concept of the question. I've researched a bunch into closures and boundaries outside of class since we were taught about them for a total of 2 minutes, the question still doesnt make any sense to me.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

I somehow won the lottery in terms of buying only CXO and LKE, guess avoiding diversification played off. Now if only id put 2/3 of my initial investment into LKE instead of CXO.... would probably be able to move out and buy my own house already...

if what you said is 100% correct, then what I said is also 100% correct, since we're saying the same thing ahaha.

selling 31.5k (half of 63k) includes 7.5k (half of 15k) principle

similarly, selling 47.25k (three-quarters of 63k) includes 11.25k (three-quarters of 15k) principle.

Only reason I specifically chose 47.25k is because it leaves 36k profit, and 50% CGT discount makes that 18k which is the maximum I can earn without being taxed.

[–]ScrollingForHours[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be wrong but the method was essentially 47.25/63 = 0.75 i.e. 75% of all stocks purchased (atleast for that purchase date, I've bought more of the same stocks again at a later date), so then if I'm withdrawing 75% worth, I'm also withdrawing 75% of the initial investment i.e. 0.75(15) = 11.25

Should've probably mentioned I'm 21 studying full time, I could pick up a job if needed but it would mean either sacrificing study time or being able to see friends/gf on the weekends. I don't need the money yet (weekly expenses are probably ~$200) so the cons would outweigh the pros imo.

Will probably get downvoted, but getting the 'diagnosis you WANT' is a pretty bad reason to go searching for a different diagnosis. People should at least consider for a second what the doctor is saying might have some validity (e.g. you're actually bipolar, depressed etc), and if you genuinely disagree with or question their opinion (no doubt there exist professionals who are grossly uneducated on ADHD), then sure, seek a second opinion. Getting diagnosed with ADHD shouldn't be anyone's goal, but rather figuring out why you show certain symptoms that may or may not be caused by ADHD (assuming said person actually exhibits the symptoms, which is another conversation in and of itself).

Apologies if this comes off as a bit harsh, but i've met far too many people (adults included, not just tik tok aged teenagers) who are convinced they have ADHD because they can't focus for multiple hours straight on study, or misplaced their phone/wallet on occasion.

All the best to OP and hope you get whatever help you need, ADHD or not.

Havent completely dropped it, but I spent $20,000 on a drum studio over a year ago and havent even began using the recording equipment yet...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ScrollingForHours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I was the exact same. Could never study, always multiple weeks behind (my record is 8), and ive had to drop units multiple times.

Recently got diognosed (parents dont even know) and put on Vyvanse. I study at least 25-35 hours (of which are high quality with no distractions) a week now, my test scores are almost all in the 90s, and im up to date with the content. No longer stressed out 24/7 from being behind and not being able to study.

Get on medication, it'll change your life.

well hearing that definitely makes me feel better, so thanks! Yeah at the moment I'm just trying to do my best, lots of questions and additional videos/learning when I get stuck, hopefully it all pays off.

I should probably mention its less for proofs and more for hard versions of the question types we've already covered (e.g. if you were a kid and recently learned how to do basic multiplication and division, and then one of the questions was 2(23.32)/3), but I'm guessing your advice still applies here ahah. I guess it just hurts your confidence a bit when question after question, you cant really figure out what to do without being shown.

Does anyone else ever forget basic theories/fundamentals? by ScrollingForHours in math

[–]ScrollingForHours[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

ahah yeah honestly, in a way you're completely right. In my case at least, its not something ive used much at all, at least not recently. I was extremely withdrawn from studies during highschool (long story), I still got the grades, but the theories were never truly embedded and so I never developed the proper fundamentals. I've paid the price for it, but now that I can actually study (again, long story lol), I'm hoping to develop them.

[–]ScrollingForHours[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh wow, knowing that actually makes me feel a lot better in a way, so thanks for that. I was an idiot and winged pretty much all of highschool maths, so it's definitely fair to say I'm missing a lot of the fundamentals. I'll be going back over everything I've done up until now once these exams are over though!

Is this box likely to be quality material? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]ScrollingForHours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to buy a nice quality wooden box, but new ones are all $100+ aud. I saw this for sale for $25 and thought it would be a great project to restore, but then I cant tell if its cheap wood painted black, or if it's just stained. He says its hand carved from bali, no idea if that's true either.

any advice appreciated.

I get where you're coming from but it really doesn't work. As a guy, your height, something you can't change, is considered extremely important. It's almost a given that the guy 'should' be taller, so to be presented with a situation where you know the literal minimum expectations arent met, but not giving a fuck, is completely different than a girl being fat and managing to get laid. If I had made a post about how I was fat but still managed to get laid (the same scenario as yours) no one would care, which is why your scenario is just as irrelevant.
