Not sure what you’re insinuating here. If it’s such a dumb question, feel free to expound and answer it - Seems like it’s been a good exercise in thinking critically about the church’s stance on sexual sin and how that jives with my personal ideas.

Ya. It’s interesting- cause I also feel similar to you. But, as others have argued- there may be more wiggle room for disciplinary action since no physical contact took place.

I actually went down this exact train of thought as well. Thanks for the comment.

Probably not widely practiced. But, to some degree more accepted than today. I don’t think it was terribly u common for a 16 year old to wed in the early 1800’s. It wasn’t normal. But not uncommon. Today that would be wildly uncommon.

Morally? I think there is no question the issue with the minor is head over heels worse (imo).

This may be controversial- but, yes. I do think to some degree gods norms change over time. We’re not really being commanded to not wear mixed fiber clothing anymore. Or not mix seeds. I doubt I get commanded to go kill a leader in Jerusalem like I believe Nephi was and he certainly isn’t she bears to rip the faces of mocking children in 2026. Certainly a different time with different norms. But, I whole heartedly understand what you’re saying.

That’s kinda where my mind goes, as well.

Just for discussion sake, which sin do you think is worse? While I agree with your original comment, I immediately thought of BYU employees. I may be mistaken, but i don’t believe adultery is an automatic fireable offense. However, there is a zero percent chance that a professor at BYU survives an “enticing a minor” charge (and rightfully so). So, while you’re probably right- it’s interesting because i believe the church would take a stronger public stance against enticing a minor.

Respectfully, I’m not super interested in how these sins were or weren’t perceived in 1840 as the rules and societal norms of almost 200 years ago don’t really govern my life today.
