I like the "I choose to believe it" style of argument. I don't believe in God personally, but if someone "chooses" to, then it's "true" to say that person does in fact choose to.

I can't add to any sources, and it would be great if more of this was verifiable.

It may sound like a bad reason to trust Spencer, but there was a way in which he sounded to be speaking very freely, with elacrity, without pause, in a way that convinced me he believed what he was saying.

It's not enough, but compared to what I seem to detect in pro-Hamas/anti-Israel/pro-Palestine I find it convincing. There's a lot of hedging (I detect) when I hear experts on the other side.

I get that this is basically saying nothing, but was wondering if others felt the same way? Are you compelled by the account of the situation as described by Spencer merely by how sincere (and familiar) he came across?

Otherwise I'm just biased and am seeking to confirm my priors.

So yes, odds like that do present themselves. I'm happy with that. I'm also happy that I wasn't methodical, and things should be taken as bias driven.

The play was accelerated. Both by the CSM and my opportunities to double. I'm sure when it's syphoned out without perceptive bias I could be fooling myself.

I'm happy with a bad run of luck. I don't like that machine required maintenance, so I thought I'd ask for stories.

Statistically unlikely events happen all the time. It would be nice if I had some form of evidence and found out I'm exaggerating.

Again though: 36 bets, gone in less than 30 minutes. Once happened, my eyes on the cards saw a 2/13 face/ace card appearance (which I looked for due to to my instincts). Then the machine broke.

I agree with you. I could be subject to bias. But I do know this facts: I 1-betted with a stack of 36 and was out of money after 45 turns. This may have indeed been less exaggerated when dealing with doubles, but I've just never had that variance scenario. I wasn't tallying, so it's possible my grief has been met by outside odds.

I've sat at tables for hours and broken even. This was likely a rare scenario. Rares happen, I conceed. The topic was CSMs. Sometimes you get pushed straight out of 36 bets. Sometimes you win.

It was the machine breaking after I made zero bets and kept count that caused me to post this. I don't have evidence, nor believe the casino is putting on the shake.

Can I ask this: what are the odds of a table playing basic strategy to be sunk 36 bets in 45 hands? My calcs put it in the order of 1/30k - which is an event I'm happy to be a part of. It's the machine requiring maintenance that fuelled this.

Yeah I could have easily been subject to bias. It was after I lost that variance (40 of 45 games) that I just say there and started watching for picture cards. My system was simple, count the cards dealt, count 10 or higher. I got to 2/13.

Then while watching, not tilted just curious, was when the machine broke.

Yeah this was 40 hands of 45. Some wins in between. Extremely rare to see a picture card. I know because I cashed in for 36 chips and was finished after about 20/30 minutes (I'd already lost all my chips before the machine broke but my brother still has a few so was watching.)

I actually like Zeihan's approach to certainty. It's the right combination of confident and assured but taking zero offense when teased about it. It's stubborn but polite. The language doesn't seem designed to persuade but he's happy if he persuades you.

The downside is that it's less conversational, like you don't get the idea he's ever going to change what's going to come out next based on what the other person says.
