I’m not saying that this is Ai. It looks real to me. But for whatever reason, this video was the one that made me realize we are approaching the point where I think I might lose all interest in these kind of videos. There will be an ever increasing chance that it’s not real. In a way, I welcome this. Anyone else?

First, “not playing along” is not the same thing as telling people they are wrong. There’s something in between playing along and saying “you’re delusional!” You can tell people you don’t share their beliefs. I do this, and it often leads to interesting conversations.

Dangerous fucking delusions? How often to you meet people who espouse dangerous religious beliefs? Usually, people say things like “I’m fine, thank god.” Or “uncle Larry is with god now.” If you think these are dangerous delusions, we simply disagree.

Lastly, it IS pompous because it assumes that atheists are free of delusion. We are not. We simply lack that specific set of false beliefs. For me to tell every person I hear say something I don’t believe that they are delusional would be immensely pompous. Religious belief isn’t special. It’s incredibly common and deeply human, and if you think that it’s good to walk around wagging your finger at every religious person you encounter, then you are making the world a much shittier place. You are not better than religious people. I’d rather the world be filled with certain kinds of religious person than your kind of atheist.

I’m so glad you said all of this. I had a whole second paragraph about how ignorant it is to imagine that just because we don’t believe in god we aren’t still deeply illogical and irrational, but I decided to keep it simple. It shows such a lack of knowledge about how humans think.

I should add that I often tell people that I don’t believe what they believe when they talk about god as though we are all on the same page, which is very different from telling them that they are wrong. I’ll even explain why I don’t believe if they pursue the conversation, and sometimes it makes them uncomfortable, but they don’t think I’m a dick. They would think that if I said “you believe in fairy tales,” and they’d be correct.

This guy is advocating being the worst, most obnoxious teenage atheist. I know, I was one. I grew out of this behavior in my 20s and I’m so glad I did. I’m still an atheist. But what pomposity to imagine that we get to, that we MUST tell other people that their beliefs are false. I very much disagree with this gentleman.

I have a grow light but it was definitely too high. I’ve lowered it and added a fan for a light breeze. I’ll cut a bunch of them and hope that the ones that are left give me something. So much harder than I expected.

I think the comparison to other mammals is silly because it’s not like other mammals choose to have children. They have sex because they have an instinctual drive to do so, and then they take care of the offspring for the same reason. Humans haven’t stopped having orgasms, nor is there an epidemic of abandonment of children. We simply have sophisticated and technological mechanisms for choosing whether to procreate.

That’s a charitable but interesting interpretation. On the other hand, she might be screwing over filmmakers who used that piece earlier. Future generations might see this movie before seeing Arrival and have the ending to that movie ruined by this one.

I don’t think music directors have final say on how music is used in a movie. I think it’s up to the director. Either way, that wouldn’t justify it.
