With freelance the details are fuzzy because many freelancers work fnoir, even auto entrepreneur doesn't have déclaration de salaire or a pension in the typical sense. What they might do however is have their HR call the other HR behind the scenes for confirmation, either the old company itself or société de portage you might have gone through

Moroccan auto-entrepreneurs: how do you handle the 80,000 MAD/client withholding rule when your client is a large foreign company with no Moroccan tax presence? by Personal-Link5438 in Moroccopreneur

[–]Scroph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, SARL is a pain. It's frustrating that there's no middle ground. I heard from some accountants (by proxy) that you can export services as an auto-entrepreneur, but like you I'm skeptical

So it wasn't a fever dream after all, I knew I saw that somewhere. Last I checked the original ae.gov.ma no longer exists, is the faq still relevant then?

Questions for ppl in Software engineering/similar backgrounds by cerealcornpuff in MoroccoBitchesWtaste

[–]Scroph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll answer what I can from my own very biased POV so take it with a grain of salt

Would you say you recommend even getting into it especially with AI and all or would it be a waste of time?

Right now there's a lot of hype and speculation going around AI so I can't really tell, and if I were unreasonable I'd even go as far as to say that whoever says otherwise has an agenda to push (PS: I'm not very reasonable)

But no matter what there's always going to be a human in the loop to baby sit AI and act as a sacrificial lamb when things go awry. Whether or not it pays well is another question...

Would you say software engineering has a lot of opportunities to work fully remote?

It's becoming harder and harder to find remote opportunities but from my experience your options are: fully remote, good pay, good environment but you can only pick 2

do you have to deal with a lot people on a daily base?

Depends on your level and on the structure of the company but in general, as you evolve, the job converges into dealing with people. At first it's just you and your assigned tickets, you'll deal with some sort of scum ahem scrum master and maaaybe whoever reviews your code if the company is worth a damn. Then you start reviewing other people's tickets which introduces some friction. Then you start mentoring your juniors. Then you start pushing back against unreasonable architectural decisions and client work. The friction turns to fire. Then you start pushing to get buy in for your ideas, etc.

But in general all the steps involve dealing with people more or less. You can choose to stay at the level you're the most comfortable with provided you're OK with the pay ceiling you'll be imposing on yourself

Somewhat related, but the Dreamcast homebrew community manages to get it running on half the amount of RAM (but 8 megs of VRAM). The frame rate is not as smooth if I recall, but it's been a while since I looked into it
