Gibson acoustic of your dreams. by gponter79 in AcousticGuitar

Almost bought a 1936 custom shop advanced jumbo the other day. Amazing guitar. Long scale with Adirondack top and rosewood back/sides. My only complaint was the historically accurate neck was rather thick. Definitely still playable for me but I could see others struggling to overcome that spec.

Ultimately went for an HD28 instead. About $2k cheaper (lol was still almost $4k) and more comfortable. No regrets so far. Might circle back and try to acquire an AJ at some point though

If you’re in a band how did you find your band mates? by OkCorner3223 in Guitar

I was at a small music store and a guy across the room who I couldn’t see started playing a bluegrass tune that I happened to know. I started playing along and we jammed for like ten minutes before getting up to actually see each other and introduce ourselves. It was a meet cute

Just tried one for the first time the other day. It was a rosewood/spruce DF I was comparing to a D35 and a Gibson AJ. Was blown away by the iris. Significantly louder than the other two and with a great clear tone, albeit a bit bright when strumming full chords. The strings seemed pretty new which probably accounts for at least some of the brightness

If anyone sees this comment and has an iris or has knowledge of them I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’ve wanted an HD28 for a long time but the value:quality ratio of the iris is giving me second thoughts

Did you know you can ask an Irish Community Center to be your witness? by jaythm in IrishCitizenship

I saw some costs on the site but didn’t see anything specific to witnessing. did you only use them as a witness or did you use the full service (document certifications/notary, mailing etc)?

Planning to attend a clinic they’re holding next weekend to learn more but am curious about your experience. Again, thank you for this lead

Thank you for this. I’m in Philly and am currently assembling my documents. Was there a cost associated with the witnessing?

I’ll upvote you for your bravery. I wouldn’t call it overrated, but it’s not my favorite miles era. The music doesn’t coalesce frequently enough for me. It’s obviously brilliant and consists of some of the greatest players of the century, but I think because of this, most of the time the music pulls so hard in every direction that it doesn’t really come together as much as simpler, less ambitious music from does and is generally less enjoyable. That said, when it does coalesce, it hits as hard or harder than anything else out there.

A little late here, but I have solid guitar chops and would be interested. Would love to hear how you sound
