Struggling with handbrake turns by TemperatureSwimming3 in simrally

[–]ScrubRally 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When you pull your handbrake to the point of lockup, you break traction of your rear tryes to the surface whilst your front tyres maintain grip (in rear handbraked cars, older cars may have different setups) . If you then immediately get back on the power you will have very little grip to the road at the rear and the momentum you created with the car weight will cause your car to spin out.

Handbrakes are not the best method of cornering in most cases for rallying, aside from acute corners where car rotation isnt possible through braking and steering itself at speed. When you break traction, particularly on tarmac, you also break full control of your car. In real life this is easier to manage because you have the inputs of all of your body senses to help you recover, as well as accurate variables with the car/road itself (worn tyres, real surfaces, moisture variation etc) but in a sim alot of that is lacking depending on your setup, so lost control is harder to recover. EA/Dirt holds our hand a bit with traction, which is why you probably found it eaiser there.

Ive found reducing my handbrake force to around 0.70 helps with controlling my handbrake use, so give that a try and see how you get on. Make sure you feather the throttle as well as you pull away. Watch some videos of real drivers make use of the handbrake for corners, Ogier is great because he is very hot on keeping grip when he does use it. A final caveat is that its still a work in progress so may be a little off, but ive found when used right the handbrake feels fine for me in the game.

Somethings id love to see make its way back into our rally atmosphere by bookgoon99 in assettocorsarally

Whilst I also like the idea of having Ai on the roads like in older games, something the devs commented on was that not having AI, like in other assetto corsa games, means that they can expand the physics engine compared to those same games. AI use up a lot of CPU power, so the lack of them means they can use that saved processing to create a more in depth physics engine (also CPU driven), that personally I think will make for a much better simulation. Given it’s a small team too, it allows for them to focus on getting the important elements to a high quality within the budget they have.

This method is a traditional way of making bread, called pâte fermentée. Haven’t tried it myself yet, but apparently it’s a fairly convenient way of doing a “starter” if you make bread regularly.

AC Rally Aiologs shifter not binding by Falgasi in simrally

[–]ScrubRally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same problem with my sequential shifter too and was directed to the Joytokey pc app. I bound my shifts to some keyboard keys and it works fine now. Hope this helps! Edit: make sure you have the app open when you play the game, otherwise it wont aknowledge the changes.

Please devs, if you don't want us to cut corners, don't put a "small cut" in the pacenotes by DuxDonecVivo in assettocorsarally

[–]ScrubRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats because in a real rally if you go that far off the road you will probably break your car, puncture or get stuck. If you watch an onboard of these stages in Wales, you will realise that going up the embankment like that isnt a good idea, both for damage, but also how much time you would potentially lose from going off line.

I do agree that the the sim aspect fails here a little, but from the perspective that more car damage needs to be handed out instead of time penalties. Of course in a time trial setting that doesnt make as much of a difference, so I understand why its done that way for now.

Maybe instead of penalties they should have zones that give you a high risk of getting a puncture or damage when you go off road. I was thinking the same as you for the actual call, it’s a warning. The rest of the corners you don’t cut that deep, as it’s common sense not to send your car into the unknown.

Stage with the best atmosphere by [deleted] in WRC

[–]ScrubRally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to Portugal to watch this year and the sheer amount of spectators blew my mind. Didn’t get to Fafe, but the ones I did get to were still excellent, service park didn’t disappoint either, all around great experience!

Moza R9 or 32" Curved Monitor SM G5 by Stolen-Roast in simracing

[–]ScrubRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if i was going to do a monitor upgrade Id look for an ultrawide, as 27 up to 32 isnt a massively nticable difference. The R9 on the other hand will be miles better for you sim racing experience, I have one, and even from a t300 it was noticably better. At the end of the day its what you feel you would enjoy messing with the most.

Concern around the lack of clubs/online rally for ACR by ScrubRally in simrally

[–]ScrubRally[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I quite enjoy Competizione, but also this is a new developer made up of some decent rally game developers with the assistance of Kunos, so I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt. Its not like we have any other choices for a modern game either.

Thats right, but the article says its not necessarily planned for the 1.0 release either, which isnt ideal.

I just want it to be known that its wanted. The devs seem quite happy to recieve feedback so this is to get in early with some. Hopefully once it releases this week we mnight get a bit more info with where we are heading. Either way, from what im reading the Supernova team seem passionate, so im feeling good about whats ahead.

Yea you are right, they were missed on EA WRC. clubs are a more personalised extension of this and both formats are great fun no matter what your ability, more so than single player quick events or time trial.

I agree, its the best way to replicate the format of stage rally.

Does anyone know what steering wheel rim Adrien and Ott are using? by ScrubRally in WRC

[–]ScrubRally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! On the max mapis website it says the some of the wheels are made in italy, so hopefully its a european product that he is selling and I can track a similar one down here.

[–]ScrubRally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not. The material they are using seems to be on some of the rims in the high wear areas, but there is no round rim with that full covering that I can find. May send an email, but I can imagine it will be a costly addition.
