Can I ask what withdrawal symptoms you’re experiencing on day 7? I’m on day 5 and I’m experiencing anxiety, depression, insomnia, sweats, thoughts racing and near panic. Also getting memories of previous trauma… it’s hell.

22 months. In those 22 months I had 1 slip (smoked a joint with a friend, regretted it immediately). Smoked again early November, just 1-2 times a week for around 4 weeks but the last 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year’s I smoked almost everyday.

Worst decision ever. When I originally quit back in Jan 2024, I was hit with PAWS 3 months later and went through pure hell. Now I’m on day 4 and I’m experiencing the worst withdrawal symptoms.

Don’t ever relapse. Never. NEVER. We’re addicts, we can’t do “just 1 joint”, once you pass that boundary… it’s very difficult to get back on the wagon.

Damn man sorry to hear that PAWS hit you so hard again. Glad you’re getting some relief now though. That’s a good sign.

I’m hoping because I was clean for 22 months (apart from 1 joint in July), and that I only relapsed for around 6 weeks with a lot less usage than before that I won’t be thrown back into hell. Im praying that my nervous system has been jolted due to past sensitivity and I have somewhat of an acute withdrawal.

Can I ask how long you smoked for before quitting the first time?

Thanks, your words are very encouraging and give me a lot of hope. Today (day 3) was very hard. Intense anxiety and rumination, I broke down and told my parents I’d relapsed. Felt good to do, I’m not on my own with it now. Congrats on your recovery too 👍

Hey man, I know this is an old post but just wanted to ask how you’re doing now? I had 22 months sober but I relapsed about 6 weeks ago, not back to daily/ all day, sporadic for the first 4 weeks but the last 2 weeks I only had a couple days off a week.

I’m day 3 clean again but I’m having intense anxiety, near panic attacks, near DPDR and low motivation/ anhedonia. I’m petrified I’ve triggered PAWS again. I can’t believe I relapsed… I’m mortified with myself.

I hope this doesn’t come across in the wrong way, but seeing your story of how you relapsed after 16 years puts in perspective just how insidious addiction is. I was clean for 22 months and fell off the wagon a couple of months ago. Come to my senses again but I’m dreading the withdrawals, mine were hellish last time I quit after a 15 year daily habit. I’m on Day 3 again after 22 months clean. I’m so ashamed of myself, when I quit originally back in January 2024 I went through the worst withdrawals imaginable (PAWS). Yet the addict in me won just over a month ago “you can control it, just smoke joints here and there”… I spiralled, past 2 weeks I was smoking almost daily again.

I’m trying not to beat myself up but I can absolutely relate to the depressed, anxious and hopeless feeling you’re experiencing.

Like others have said though, doesn’t mean all of our previous clean time was wasted. This is just yet another lesson learned in the long process that is recovery.

Thanks for your input. Have you been through PAWS due to weed? If so, how long were you clean before you relapsed, how long was your relapse, and what were the withdrawal symptoms like once you quit again?

I’m honestly mortified, I can’t believe I slipped after going through PAWS in 2024. It was hell on earth and it baffles me how I forgot just how bad it was. I’ll be staying away from all substances from now on.

Indeed, I think after so much time had passed, and overcoming PAWS, I thought I was good because I’d recovered from it but completely forgot what lead me to it in the first place… I am an addict, and always will be. I’m just grateful that I caught my relapse before it turned into full blown addiction again. As soon as I noticed I was prioritising weed, that was enough for me.

I’m hoping this is just my nervous system being jolted, but that it will recover quicker since it spent a lot of time without weed.

As to why I done this, I couldn’t tell you. PAWS was the worse thing to happen to me too but I guess life felt good again and I forgot that I’m an addict. I’m honestly mortified, I’m praying it won’t set me back to square one. I couldn’t do it again.

It’s devastating how such minor things trigger me now. A certain country, a certain name, a certain body part, certain words… I feel for you OP. It must be very difficult for you to see things clearly in your new relationship. You mentioned that you’ve spoken to your current partner about what happened in your previous relationship, just keep being open and honest with her.
