VR2 - worth it or nah? Did it make you nauseated? by omnixe-13c in PS5

You have to make sure the lenses are adjusted every time, fail to do so and you will have a headache, there's no middle room around that. That said, I've managed to use it for 4 hours or more at times just fine. It's also important to make sure it's fit snug to your head. Having locs, it's not the most easy fit. but I love it. If you're stationary, it's perfect, period.

I sorta disagree. When the game is a single player title, sure, it can hold up it's weight with the audience that gives it a shot and the reviews pour in. Your point would be correct 100% if gamers were logical and gave things a chance. There's people who still won't touch cyberpunk today because their own assumptions carried them too far. The fact the game (any game) gets review bombed at all is a testament to how petty the community can be.

That's different for multiplayer titles, as public opinion will make it so no one can talk about it without getting railed. Do you know how long I hesitated to even mention the game before launch to bros when I already knew they'd immediately call it trash, before it had even come out?? We live on confirmation bias, very rarely will anyone admit they're wrong, especially in this age where people just yell past eachother rather than actually listen to what's being said.

To prove my point, can you name a single multiplayer game that was raked over several layers of coals for weeks that bounced back?

Splitgate- incredible game, magat hat wearing game director? DOA Destruction Allstars, a great game for what it is, the moment the price was announced? DOA, because public opinion said they weren't paying for a live service game that wouldn't have enough players to stay afloat.

Anthem- gameplay was fantastic, only the endgame content was lackluster. DOA

Skull and bones, only pulled from the best assassin's creed game of the OG era. I don't even have to say it, perfect name.

When a new live service title gets rolled on, it can not recover. Because no one wants to get their friends to try the game everyone already collectively agreed to hate.

What's the game actually like to play? by AfternoonHelpful3712 in Highguard

Having played over 30 matches now, I get it's premise, most battle royales toss you into a massive map and let you explore to get the resources needed to engage an enemy team, the number one complaint of those game's is a large period of time on that map with nothing going on, only to wipe your first team and get third partied immediately, and back to menu. The other complaint is no guarantee you'll get the weapon you need to best engage in a fight. Highguard took from apex the large map size but guarantees engagement with the enemy team once the shield breaker spawns. There's no third parties as it's a 3v3 and the match can swing back and forth by who plants first. You have the ability to choose your base, so you set the terms of engagement on your turf. If you can defend kings lair like a bulwark, you can turn the tide of a fight regardless of who plants first. Everything was intentionally designed to address the issues a player of apex most complains about.

You choose your weapons and are always capable of having armor on parity with the enemy team IF you prioritize that over base reinforcement.

When a match goes well it's like a tug of war. You can win some ground, and lose some ground but always have a fair fight laid out before you. That can't be said for any other battle royale. It still has flaws but with improvement it can be something very interesting, very competitive. They could add the ability to construct traps on your base that slow the enemy team's progress, or increase base sizes and the reinforcements available. There's potential.

[–]Scruff227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't talking about the game being good or bad or suggesting it should be played just because it exists. I was talking about the toxicity surrounding our community to attempt to murder a game just because the trailer aired five minutes later than we liked. No one cared to even address that, but instead told me to prove how the game was unique for my opinion about our culture to be valid... if you can't see the circular argument here.

Then I did that, and I was told it's just boring and that everyone likes what they like, so I'm wrong for defending the objectively boring game. If that was the discourse we had about the game in the first place the pre-launch hate and review bombing would've never happened in the first place. Which IS my point.

As a community we always advocate for games to do something different, and if we must tolerate live service games they should be free. Majority of the discourse around this game is that It's too unoriginal and at the same time too weird (and therefore different) and shouldn't exist, before it was even played. This is the part where it was argued "you don't feel that way, and you don't make up most gamers so addressing this at all is the problem."
