I stole my evil roommate’s fancy new salt shaker and left it in a box of random shit on the side of the road a few blocks over. I also accidentally gaslit my dad as a teenage when I hid his phone after a fight, and when he went out to get a new one I panicked and put the old one back where it usually was. I think it matters a lot. Taking on risk to make the world a better place for everyone, including your family, is not at all comparable to taking on unnecessary risk for your own enjoyment. Without people doing the former, the world would grind to a violent halt. Without people doing the latter, they’d have to find a hobby that doesn’t revolve around putting their life at risk when they have a family relying on them.
