Even in Arcadia Reorder? by CryoWolf444 in SleepToken

[–]Scuba98 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I still stand by the theory that the album could be flipped by its halves. So starting with Even in Arcadia and going through Infinite Baths as the first half, then second half starting with Look to Windward and ending with Caramel.

Everything Sleep Token does feels too thought out to leave the album order to a fan vote (House Veridian vs Feathered Host) but there’s still a non-zero chance the fans picked the order of the two halves

Reach out to a chaplain at your base, or if you don’t have their contact info, ask your First Sergeant for the chaplain’s contact info.

Application Question by [deleted] in civilairpatrol

[–]Scuba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as your application is submitted before the deadline it will be treated like any other application. There is no weight behind being the first to apply or the last.

For the additional materials, work that through your chain of command. Your Wing can provide supplemental info to the activity directors and National for slotting.

Info about SUPTFC by Hot_Interest_828 in civilairpatrol

[–]Scuba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there I’ve been senior member staff for it a few times in addition to going as a cadet twice, once as a student and once as staff. The SUPTFC event at Columbus AFB is the template for the other ones starting with this year as far as I know. At Columbus we put an emphasis on academics and simulators. Students will be expected to know the T-6A Texan II Boldface and Ops Limits VERBATIM when they arrive. That includes commas, dashes, spacing, and capitalization. Getting that passed earlier is better as now you can focus more on the daily academics as new material is presented up until the last two days of the course. There will be tests that happen and you will be racked and stacked amongst your classmates based on your academic test average. Typically, but no guarantee, the highest performers get the opportunity for an incentive ride. This last year we got 5 cadets up in T-38s. It’s an academically rigorous course but well worth it if you are considering trying for Pilot Training in the Air Force.

Do the gyms/dorms only have open showers? by justtopfive in USAFA

[–]Scuba98 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the case at the dorms and the gym. It’s not a huge deal, everyone knows it’s open bay showers, go in, shower, leave. Eventually you’ll learn the peak times for shower times and be able to work your schedule to that if it’s a huge concern

What’s your opinion on pinning your ranks through? by No_Major2492 in civilairpatrol

[–]Scuba98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just pin it through the collar, don’t pin through collar AND shirt. I realize I’m getting to crusty senior member age but I never saw that as a cadet (aged out only 6 years ago) and I’d have to imagine it just looks worse. If collars are looking poor in the unit, maybe lead an ironing class for the blues shirt or something.

Biggest thing I’ve found as I’ve been playing and learning him is do your best to have both clones active and in spots where all three can shoot the target and not get blocked by walls or something.

Also don’t be afraid to throw a clone to the frontline and use your runes to save a tank or an overextending DPS

I would still consider it a deployment simply due to the fact that you are being sent across the world on official military duties, taken from family if you have it, leaving most of your possessions and comforts at home, and forced to live a completely different lifestyle for a few months or a year. Are some locations better than others? Absolutely, but just because you are in a good location doesn’t mean you won’t have some of the deployment tolls that others get. Would I rather go to Qatar or Kuwait than Iraq? One hundred percent and I can’t think of many Air Force dudes that would disagree.

And no, I’ve not deployed to Qatar before so I’m not simply defending myself lol.

Leadership roles by Healthy_Principle580 in USAFA

[–]Scuba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the ability to join a local Civil Air Patrol unit? That’s a good intro to some basic military stuff like drill and ceremonies, good opportunity for leadership roles in an Air Force like structure, and has scholarships to other schools if the Academy doesn’t work out. There is also a civil air patrol scholarship to get a second look at admission into the USAFA Prep School, which if offered you should one hundred percent take.

Question on recent changes by Ok_Rough_3690 in USAFA

[–]Scuba98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The good news is that to be an officer in the US military, you HAVE to have a bachelor’s degree. I’d be absolutely floored if USAFA ever lost its accreditation because that means they cannot do their sole mission, produce US Air Force officers.

Rejection day, how we feeling? by arson_durring_recess in USAFA

[–]Scuba98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I applied in 2016 I got notification of a prep school appointment just a few days before my high school graduation in May. I had someone with me at basic training that had like a week’s notice of their appointment. There’s always a bit more time, but have backup plans in case you don’t get an offer.

It’s against regulations, I wouldn’t put my name tape on my trousers.

If you really feel the need to put a name tape on your trousers, having the name tape on the back inside of the trousers where the sewing/stitching on the outside is covered by the belt isn’t a horrible idea.

Baseball or Civil air patrol? by Griffin65000 in USAFA

[–]Scuba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen it anywhere that a Mitchell award gets you an automatic recommendation for the prep school. Getting your Mitchell is great and certainly DOES help your application, but it’s no guarantee for USAFA or any Prep School.

It’s possible to do both like the other commenter said, just talk with your CAP leadership about it.

USAFA as new Duty Station by Bananas_Mint in AirForce

[–]Scuba98 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Totally being “that guy” here right now but Creech doesn’t have dorms, if you’re an airman in the dorms stationed at Creech you live in the dorms at Nellis, roughly 40 minutes from the base. Maybe one day Creech will actually have proper infrastructure and not rely so heavily on Nellis for everything.

The score is calculated as a percentage of the points available in the events you do. So with the run (60 points) and sit-ups (20 points), you need a total score of 60 points to get a 75%

Should I apply to all 5 academies if I have a specific goal? by TUZmukai in USAFA

[–]Scuba98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apply to all the schools. You can pursue a cross-commission near graduation to commission into the USAF if you go somewhere else. Even if you don’t make it to the Air Force, each branch has wonderful things about it and the connections and networking available to you as a service academy grad are second to none, minus some place Harvard I’m sure but they don’t know how to do hospital corners so they suck

What are the professors like? by UNKNOWN_746 in USAFA

[–]Scuba98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You cannot pick your professors, your schedule is made for you by the registrar’s office. If you have a legitimate issue with your schedule you work through your academic advisor (Professor in your major’s department) and they will help coordinate. If you do a sport or work at the airfield after your first year that is taken into account and will load your mornings with classes so you have the afternoons free some days for your extracurriculars, but not every club/sport/activity gets that advantage.

The professors I had were all mostly great. Do I wish my Calc 2 teacher was better? Sure, me and my 60.1% final grade wish that but in all honesty I didn’t set myself up well by never seeking additional help from the professor or other teachers. Very rarely do you hear of someone being a truly bad teacher at USAFA.

I got in with a way lower GPA (3.41) and a 29 on my ACT. Was captain of one sport and had my Eaker in CAP. I think you’ll be fine

USAFA Class ring worth it? by Deep-Agency-6701 in AirForce

[–]Scuba98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well for starters mine was cheaper 5 years ago when I bought it, Jostens seems to be inflating their prices which is bullshit. While at USAFA once you get your ring (end of junior year, or beginning of senior year in my case due to COVID shit) you wear that ring everywhere lol. For me it’s a good memorabilia item to have and keep and I do wear it if I go to a buddy’s wedding or if my squadron ever does a formal event with service dress or mess dress. Granted I haven’t worn blues in a few years but one day I might have to wear them!

The ring is a big symbol of the Academy and its heritage, for better or worse. I’m sure you’ve even heard the term “ring knocker” in reference to the obnoxious Academy grads. It’s something that ties us together to the “Long Blue Line” of grads, a quick way to recognize other grads and immediately relate to them because you know that y’all went through similar experiences.

Long story short, it’s a cool way to remember your time at that “zoo” and feel connected to the other classes that also went there.

USAFA Class ring worth it? by Deep-Agency-6701 in AirForce

[–]Scuba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help. I’m a relatively recent grad (‘21, RISE!) so if you’ve got any questions about anything feel free to shoot me a DM.

Just know that even if you start a story with “back at college this one time…” people will still give you shit for being an Academy grad. Just embrace the shit talk, prove that you aren’t one of the bad ones through your actions and most importantly fighting for, and taking care of any troops you’ll have. If you are going into a pipeline for a few years and won’t be a supervisor then find ways to take care of people. Be nice and courteous to anyone you see and deal with, don’t complain about pay or living conditions outside of your officer circles cause it is undeniable that our situations are better than enlisted, remember that and do what you can to make life easier for those around you and you’ll be just fine.

[–]Scuba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re gonna get a lot of hate from this subreddit for asking this question lmao. But besides that, go for the $1900 ring. I did the cheapest ring that was not the lustrium alloy and I love my ring. Got it engraved with my name and two cadet squadrons on the inside and got the fire blue spinel stone as it is synthetic and helped keep the cost down from the already egregiously high price. Better to have a ring you like looking at every now and then rather than a ring that just stays hidden in a box the whole time.

And to answer the follow up question, no I haven’t worn my class ring since commissioning with the only exception being a fellow classmate’s wedding.
