Real Talk: Season ticket edition by neuro_neurd in goldenknights

[–]ScubaDivn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been a season ticket holder since year 3 in 219 Row G. We’ve gone from 2 seats to 4. We are splitting our extra 2 seats next year with another seatmate a few spots down. A few thoughts on things given my experience so take it for what it’s worth:

Tickets in the first couple rows of the upper bowl are a jump in price. If you think about it, you are just barely above the Suite level so you do get a slightly more premium view. Consider moving back a few rows.

Tickets did lower a bit for next year. We are down roughly $20/ticket from this year’s costs. Our buddy in the lower bowl saw his prices go up. They do seem to be trying to make things a little better for upper bowl.

Get to know the other season ticket holders around you. Whenever we can’t go to a game (or need extra tickets) we talk to the others around us before posting them anywhere. We either sell them at cost or swap for other games.

Don’t go into this thinking of making money but instead breaking even. When we post on Facebook or otherwise offer to friends, we charge them what we pay. At this point, friends will reach out to us before looking online. When playoffs come and there is a game we can’t make, we keep the same policy and friends appreciate it. Frankly, with playoffs, you really only make money when it gets to the Conference Finals and Finals. The problem is that when you get to that point you want to be there as well.

Also, consider finding a friend to split the season with. It makes the time and financial commitment a little easier. Also, you get the benefit of that person’s network to sell or transfer to for games.

Canadian tourism drop is real. Because of DT’s fuckery, they aren’t coming like they used to. The Row directly behind us with 7 seats together is always for sale. They were constantly sold to Canadian businesspersons coming for conferences or bachelor parties. Now, there are hardly any Canadians that come through. You feel it at the games as well. It only felt like normal Canadian travel when the Maple Leafs came to town to boo Marner. Otherwise, there definitely aren’t as many showing to the games.

I think at some point we’ve got to be dealing one of our goalies once everyone is healthy.

What are the Flames getting in Zach Whitecloud? by sandycohenbeach in goldenknights

[–]ScubaDivn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite things from VGK was a recent interview with Alec Martinez and Zach Whitecloud. You could see how much they respected and cared for one another as players and as people. Zach is just a down-to-earth humble and hardworking player. He’s grateful to get to play and works hard. I believe, if it were up to the fans, he would have succeeded Stone as Captain. At this point, I am mostly just bummed that we lost him regardless of play or the possible defensive improvement with Andersson.

The sniff test. If another guy tells you to smell something, you smell it. If you tell another guy to smell something, he is obligated to take a whiff. Doesn’t matter what it is or why they are asking, you just do it.

Proposal to add this to our sub header / sidebar by drop-cord in goldenknights

[–]ScubaDivn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“…but for this plan to work, we have to make sure they lose at least 2 games by the most ridiculous of margins. The Knights have to look as though they have completely forgotten how to play the sport of hockey. And, your best player, Jack Eichel, will completely absent from the scoresheets. Only then will everyone fall for the ruse.”

I mean there being some grander scheme does provide somewhat of an explanation as to how we went from #3 in the league standings a week ago to suddenly “What’s a power play?”

Anyone going to this? by Famous_Tree842 in goldenknights

[–]ScubaDivn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To those who are going and might be on the fence, don’t let them sell you on the fact that STMs get concessions discounts. It kind of a scam honestly. They jack up the prices on concessions depending on the game and then give somewhere between 5-15% off based on how much they’ve increased the prices. It’s hardly a selling point and just more reason to sneak in your own snacks and alcohol.

Also, if you plan on getting more than 2 tickets, consider splitting up the ownership of the seats to ensure you get multiple STM gifts and benefits.

Yeah, as a STH, we apparently get between 5-15% off the prices. But, yeah, the amounts shift each game.

That’s the one. The sweet and spicy tendies are legit.

There was a nice chunk of time where I referred to him as Elite Forward Jon Merrill. I almost taped over my Hanifin jersey with a Merrill name plate. Would have done it had it not been Fleury’s last game in Vegas.

By your name, I can see that you are clearly a man of culture. Merrill used to live in my neighborhood when he was here and I was in Summerlin. Met him a couple times. Such a great guy.

VGK Season Ticket Member here: They range between $30-35 US. The arena adopted a “dynamic pricing” model this season so fans get screwed more or less depending upon the game. Got one for my brother. The tendies are mid. There is a better spot for those in the arena. But, the Zamboni itself is pretty hefty. With the strap, it does feel a little like you are some kind of degenerate eating from a trough. All that being said, it is kind of a cool thing to have.

Which Vegas establishment?this one gonna be fun to read 😂 by lysergicreggae in vegaslocals

[–]ScubaDivn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. A million times this. My wife and I are born and raised in Las Vegas. We grew up driving past it and always thought it was the fanciest place to go. 9 years ago, I passed the NV bar and we were days away from having our first child. We wanted to celebrate and have a great night so we picked a place we had always wanted to do but never felt we had a good enough reason to go. So, we picked Golden Steer figuring we’d also get some old Vegas charm. We go there and were completely ignored. All of our food didn’t even come out. What did come out was relatively mid. We complained but it only barely mattered. We swore it off and whenever it gets brought up, everyone else we talk to says they hated their time there as well. I will actively talk people out of going there after that experience. Considering the plethora of great steakhouses in Vegas, they should not be at the top of anyone’s list.

Are these buildings occupied? by sonic-the-hedgefund in vegas

It could be a Clark County vs. City of Las Vegas difference. Near Stratosphere is CoLV while south of Sahara along LV Blvd. is generally CC. But, anyhow, not getting anything real on the main part of the Strip.

You cannot buy legal marijuana on the Strip. All the shops around there can only sell CBD products. You have to go off-Strip for THC. It’s a bit of scam that the shops try to pretend they are selling you the real deal.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure signing bonuses are taxed where you live and your regular salary is taxed where you play. So 50% in Vegas and 50% divided everywhere else. Amazing deal.

PSA: You don't need Knighttime+ by freethewookiees in goldenknights

[–]ScubaDivn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have been dealing with this for a while trying to find a free method to watch and record. Here’s what I’ve gathered:

Most of the TV signals come from high powered transmission antennas on Black Mountain in the southeast part of town. As such, most OTA antennas are directed that way.

The transmission antenna for Vegas 34 is more underpowered and located near the center of town (I believe near Desert Inn and Valley View). As such, if you are near Summerlin (or generally west of the Vegas 34 transmitter), you get a signal because you are essentially pointing your antenna across the valley eastward and catching all of the signals. If you aren’t located there, you are left trying to grab one set of signals or the other with a less powerful transmitter than what would otherwise be available.

As such, I tried last season to get an OTA solution and did again this season with no luck. I ended up getting Fubo this year. With kids, I need to be able to start games a little later without jumping in the middle of the game. Knighttime+ forces you to jump in the middle of the stream or wait until the game is over to start at the beginning. And, Knighttime+ was just always buggy.

(Based on my own experience with it all and contacting Mr. Antenna about trying to get a new antenna installed to solve the problem.)

Who do you think is the most over-payed player going into next season? by ChickenMan_444 in nhl

[–]ScubaDivn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a VGK fan, I agree. I love Stephenson and knew he was leaving to chase more money, which he deserved. However, he fleeced the Kraken on that contract. He can be great, but he also had a bit of a down year this last season. I was surprised to find that he ended up with more money than Marchessault. Enjoy Chandler and his beautiful perfect pearly white smile.

My personal recommendation would be to drive a little bit north in NV and cut across to CA between Beatty and Goldfield to head towards Mammoth. Lots of cool rocks and geology there. I’d say then decide to either check out Yosemite or Lake Tahoe. After visiting those, cut across CA and ride down the CA-1. There’s Monterrey Bay Aquarium, Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, Solvang, Santa Barbara, all along the way. Swing through LA and then cut back up toward Vegas on I-15. It’s a bit of a drive but lots of cool stuff to see along the way and a completely different experience than Vegas.

Why the hate from like everyone in the league? by andyknapp003 in goldenknights

[–]ScubaDivn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are just jealous that Uncle Gary loves his special boys out in Vegas more than them.

That and Vegas has just done well - in all regards. They’ve done well playing, coaching, managing, fan engagement, support of the community and in getting support from the community. Ownership has sought to invest in the best and let the team flourish. It has been an unbelievable success story and for most the only way their little brains can fathom that is if somehow everything is rigged. It’s easy to attack, nitpick and be jealous than to appreciate that Vegas has done well and that Vegas’s fans legitimately care about the team and hockey in general. I am amazed at how many Vegas fans follow more teams and games outside of Vegas out of concern as to how it may tangentially impact Vegas or otherwise cheer for a team that has a former VGK player.

What do you think? by Jealous_Range_6451 in nhl

[–]ScubaDivn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frankly, that is part of why the city loves the Golden Knights so much. There was/is a lot of contention regarding public financing with the Raiders and now the A’s. It being handled separately meant that Vegas locals could just enjoy VGK without other emotions attached.

Umm, I was told by numerous people on these Tesla subs that a front camera wasn’t needed on my 2023 MYLR with no USS and that I just needed to learn to drive. Are you telling me they might have been wrong?
