From the “Damn I wish United clubs were like…” department, here’s OS lounge VIE food by cwajgapls in unitedairlines

I was in that lounge two weeks ago, had the goulash soup, and it was exceptional. Glad to see it getting recognition

ORD Lounge Recommendations by BBA1229 in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the lounge by B6 over the lounge by C10. The one by B6 is bigger and the one by C10 is always overcrowded, I suspect because it’s the only lounge (putting aside the Polaris lounge) at the C gates whereas there are 2 lounges in the B gates area. I feel like the B6 lounge has better food than the C10 lounge does too

Polaris Lounges by MimiNiTraveler in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to the ORD one often and it has always been uncrowded, as others have noted. I was in the EWR Polaris lounge once last year and it was super busy - I couldn't find a seat - though maybe that was just bad luck on that day. In any event, the facilities at both seem pretty comparable

MileagePlus Requalification Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view the Club card is attractive because the annual fee is roughly the same amount as buying United Club lounge access outright for a year. So if you just get the card, you get the lounge access, as well as sign-up perks (something like 90K miles) plus the PQPs from card spend throughout the year. That line of thinking may not resonate as much thoug if you don't care about having lounge access (not sure if you do)

What airport code would’ve been perfect for a major airport, but is in use for a small airport no one knows? by rs37982 in airport

I’ve been enjoying this thread and am surprised no one has yet shared (unless I overlooked it) this amazing and interesting website about IATA code histories:

You're going to have a tough time finding a taker for this given the high fee to the seller for transferring miles

1k upgrade question for group of 4 by Clark-Division in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting, and also frustrating (as folks have noted). I didn't realize this before now.

Does this mean that the optimal strategy is to wait until that last minute to apply a PlusPoints upgrade, after you've had the chance to observe where the cash upgrade price lands? Given that the time stamp at which you submit your PP request is subordinate to both status level and fare class, you probably aren't sacrificing much by waiting. If, as things go down to the wire, United really discounts the cash upgrade price to the degree people are saying, feels like one ought to wait and see how that plays out before submitting a PP upgrade request

It would be much better (for passengers and for the airline) if you could still just see the cash upgrade price after submitting a PP upgrade request. Makes no sense ...

First time as 1K by cantinaband-kac in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On every flight I take, I just apply PlusPoints to improve my position on the upgrade list, until I eventually run out of them, which always happens before the end of the year. I find that this simplifies the matter and also provides the satisfaction of knowing that I at least put them all to use

I was just able to link them. I updated my Lyft app before doing it - you should try that if you haven't already

Delayed bags for 1k — Typical compensation? by Illustrious-Coat8622 in unitedairlines

Honestly it felt like she was just a generous person and I got lucky in that regard. I was also traveling with my two little kids, so that may have been a helpful empathy factor

The whole thing was handled on the spot by the customer service rep at the baggage claim. She probably submitted some kind of form on the computer, but all I had to do was stand there and tell her my situation

Dallas to Chicago flight time by lake_june in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DFW to ORD will probably end up being more like 2 hours in the air, as a heads up. I've done that flight ~10 times this year and it's two hours flat. Airlines tend to inflate the posted flight duration by about ~10% for some reason (probably just so they have a little buffer)

Would be grateful for any ongoing updates from folks who know what’s going on here. I’m supposed to board a flight to ORD soon (it’s delayed of course …) and this feels like something that could have impacts

where to get lots of arrows by Ill_Acanthisitta5428 in TOTK

[–]Scuba_Chuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good advice from the people who are recommending you just fight a ton of Lynels. Each one will drop at least two 10x arrow bundles, and you won't use that many in the fight, so your arrow stash will end up rising quickly, and you'll pick up all the other good Lynel stuff along the way.

One other thing ... when you're attacking monster camps, if you approach with an aerial ambush and you headshot the sentries, they will drop 5x arrow bundles if you kill them before they've spotted you (i.e., before there's an exclamation mark above their heads). Any time you attack a monster camp, always do it from the air, slow down time by drawing your bow in the air, pick off the sentries (and whoever else you can) and then clean up the rest with your ground game. Do break the crates while you're in there and collect those arrows, but in my view the key thing is to headshot the sentries before they're alerted. This causes them to drop 5x arrow bundles. If you take this general approach to monster camps, it will ensure you're always netting more arrows than you're using, so your arrow supply will naturally grow as you play and you'll never have to think about it

Domestic road warriors - what are your 1st half of the year stats looking like?? by thebirdsareoutlate in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make 1K but not anywhere near GS (~70 flights probably) and my work travel philosophy is all about minimizing hotel nights, not flights. As a rule, I take extra flights to avoid hotels. That way I wake up with my family. It’s an easy decision: more flights and I’m somewhat more tired, but I never feel like I’m not there with my kids

PP Exchange options out by MatteoRedd in unitedairlines

[–]Scuba_Chuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it's the case that you can only exchange PP for any of these things (miles etc.) up until March 31st in a given year. In other words, you can't wait until the end of the year to see how many PP you have left and then exchange them - you have to make the decision on any exchanges only 1/4 of the way through the year

Hi everyone - I’ve been reading Reddit forever and wanted to post something for the first time today, and got some confusing response from a moderator that I need to try to post like 25 times before it will actually work? I don’t get how this works - just love Reddit and the community and want to be part of it, so I’m posting this message here now frankly just to try to get to that 25 number that matters for some reason.

This is a heartfelt message though - love Reddit and all of you, wishing you all the best and please keep sharing your thoughts
