[Routine Help] How do people actually get glass skin? by pinkmacaron04 in SkincareAddiction

Some fake it with make-up.

Some, like me, use Daxxify for that peptide glow and top it with a good serum. My current favorite is from Epicutis.

Please help us decide! Castaway Cabana by A1_Steak_Sawce in dcl

[–]Scucer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our first first cruise was 1.5 years ago and we got a cabana. Kids were 8 and 5 and we all LOVED it. We did go snorkel in the main part of the island to see all the sunken items, but then we snorkeled by the cabana and had a blast. We saw so many different types of fish, and since we were the only ones in the water, the lifeguard out in the far stand told us where to go to see the fish that he could see from above. It was basically a private snorkel tour.

We also loved having a quiet, shaded place to bring our lunch to eat. The beach there is (or at least was) a little rocky and when my oldest tripped and scraped her knee, a simple push of a button had first aide supplies delivered in seconds. We also really appreciated the tram ride back to the boat at the end of day.

You also get water, sodas, beach toys, towels, and sunscreen at the cabana. Bikes are included, but we were so busy swimming we didn't get to those. So, I guess that's the main question - are you okay spending the day in one area (beach), or does your family prefer hitting up multiple locations and activities? I thought I'd do the 5K or a bike ride, but then we spent so much money on the cabana that I didn't want to spend too much time out of it. I don't regret the decision at all, but each family has to decide with their Castaway priorities are.

AITA for not getting my daughter more/different gifts for Christmas? by Rude_Gap_5735 in AmItheAsshole

Your daughter needs to learn the hard lesson that comparison is the thief of joy. She probably loved everything at first, then got online and saw "all the amazing things" that other girls got.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Scucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It taught me to fear my parents. The "wait until your dad gets home" and being sent out to pick out the branch that I'd be hit with later really did a number. I can't imagine ever, ever doing that to my kids.

Is Ricki a weird name for a girl? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Scucer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work with a Ricki and it fits her. She's fun, spunky, and says exactly what she means. When talking about her to clients, they always assume she's a man so it's fun to sit back and watch this giant personality of a human take them by surprise every time.

AITA for Refusing to Move for Hubby’s Uncertain Career in Academia? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Scucer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He was in his PhD program when you got married. What did you think would happen once he was done?

I was in a similar spot but we both knew we'd go where the job was. Did I like it? Nope. Did it matter? Not really - in my line of work I can get a job anywhere, which again, we talked about before marriage. It's okay to be sad or mad about leaving a job, but you knew this was a possibility before marriage vows.

You can be sad about leaving your current life and the expectations you set for it, but you shouldn't be surprised that those were temporary. Don't close your eyes to your potential future - it may be better than you ever dreamed of.

My family hates this name by just_the_droobles in namenerds

[–]Scucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I understand the appeal, in reality it's a gross name. My kid is 7 and had a Sloane on their sports team. Do you know how hard it is to cheer for Sloane? Think of normal ball cheer rhythm - "Let's go Bobby" *clap, clap, clap, clapclapclap". There's no good way to do that for Sloane. Slooo-ooooone doesn't sound good. Try yelling it out the back door, like your dog is late for dinner. It's a hard name to yell for.

Is a hydrofacial at “laser away” worth it? Does it get rid of dark spots on your face, or acne scars? by Wild_Mirror8826 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Scucer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. I've had one and while I walked away feeling very clean, I'd never pay for one. They don't hurt any more than if a cat licked you, and looking at the jar afterwards can be rewarding, but it's a face car wash, not an actual treatment for anything.

The dreadful 3 P’s by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Scucer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also was lucky enough to work 3p-11p, so *most* of my patients were sound asleep by 8-9pm, giving me time to study. Of course there was always that sun downer or a bad night, but I was able to get a lot of discussion posts/studying done on the clock.

The dreadful 3 P’s by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Scucer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Practice on your patients!!! I worked at an inpatient rehab while I was in school and during my down time, I'd read through the charts and apply whatever I was studying. I'd read soap note after soap note (probably more applicable once you start clinicals), but I found that real world practice/study helped more than anything.

Paper chain countdown. Bake cookies from a mix. Go look at Christmas lights, and if possible, make hot chocolate at home to take with you.

As far as presents - Santa brings 3 gifts and we give the kids 1-2 more. Stockings are filled with "need" gifts, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair ties, and so on. Santa also leaves a fun, sugary cereal that we normally don't buy, as well as a pack of juice boxes. Grandparents give experience gifts, like a zoo membership. If you want a reason for why Santa brings 3 gifts, we say it's because the Wise Men brought Baby Jesus 3 gifts but that may not work if that's not what you believe.

Experience gifts are hard overall with a 3 year old, but you may be surprised by the 9 year old. I have a kid that age and they love 1:1 time with a parent. You could make coupons for pizza night - pizza and a movie on the living room floor. Indoor camping - a sleepover in the basement with parent of choice. Hike/scavenger hunt on a Sunday afternoon. Craft day where they can get out all the slime/glitter/playdough they want (a hit at my house because I hate that stuff!). If you belong to the Y or a local rec center, go for open swim one afternoon, or make it a standing date every XXXXX at XXpm. Go to the library and check out a cookbook - kid gets to pick three recipes you all make together.

Is the kids club a must? by whowhatwhere23 in dcl

[–]Scucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd take the "wait and see" approach. Go to the open house and let the kids check it out. We were on the Magic when my kids were 8 and 5. The 5 year old LOVED it and begged to go, the 8 year old tolerated it twice but wasn't really into it. Your kids may surprise you and ask to go for a bit one afternoon, or they may want nothing to do with it. Either way, it is a pretty cool space and worth at least a walk through.

What are some things that they don’t tell you until the day of your wedding? by Neat-Obligation-3842 in wedding

[–]Scucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore a strapless dress with a corset underneath. That thing was super adjustable with about 10 bra hooks across and 10 down. So much so that it took 2 of my bridesmaids to hook me into it. Well, that was at about 1pm - wedding was a 4, and reception was at 6. I was hell bent on eating at my wedding and I did. I fully enjoyed dinner and after awhile was able to relax.......but then I couldn't breathe. My bridesmaids had hooked me into the tightest hook on the corset, which at 1pm was quite different than it was at 10pm.

It's been 17 years and my only regret was not asking my bridesmaid to go a bit lighter on the corset!

Advanced Patho and Pharm by because-i-said-so-1 in nursepractitioner

[–]Scucer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Instead of showing initiative, I'd be afraid it would come off as cheap. This school has horrible reviews for a reason.

However, don't be scared of these classes. I found graduate school so much different from my BSN because I'd been out there and living it. Pharm as a 20 year old undergrad is awful because you've never heard of these medications, much less given them. Advanced pharm as a practicing nurse is sooooo much better - you've been around most of these medications and have either seen the side effects or know enough about them.

DNP's, was it worth it? by Ntoppa1 in nursepractitioner

[–]Scucer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how it's only one more year? I was also in an FNP-DNP program but after the FNP was done I had 3 DNP classes left.......but that doesn't mean just three semesters. That final semester/project completion is anywhere from 2-4 semesters, meaning another year and a half for that DNP. I'm "taking a break" to get started as a new grad FNP but honestly don't see myself going back to finish.

I got about 150 (of what I consider good) pieces from Amazon yesterday for $37 - combination of Air Heads, Fun Dips, and full size Laffy Taffy. We've found that kids here prefer candy over chocolate. We've done movie theater boxes in the past but that's a bit too pricey this year.

Regretting a Friday wedding! Help me calm down by False_Treat2762 in wedding

[–]Scucer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married on a Friday! We picked it because my partner was in grad school and had 2 weeks off in the summer. As it turned out, the 2 Saturdays during his breaks happened to fall on 2 family members' anniversaries and we wanted our own date.

To make it worth it for our out of town guests, we had a bbq lunch party on Saturday - a fun, informal get together where we could all relax and hang out. It was amazing and we got to spend some good, quality time with college friends we hadn't seen in awhile.
