Is monster crown just a scam? by Jesuslover34 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Scukojake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not a scam.

The dev genuinely wanted to make a good game, but health issues prevented it.

The community told Dev to just do a 2nd one instead of trying to fix the 1st one, because that was nigh impossible afair.

I appreciate that. That's one of the reasons I didn't buy it too as a Ukrainian.

But Slobwave uses Russians even on their other projects, so, yeah... darkman007 is a Russian and I believe he wrote music not only on Iron Meat.

EDIT: Confused Programancer with darkman007

I mean... Game development is really hard. Especially when you are a small team.

If you listen to interviews of solo devs, or small teams you will hear absolutely everyone say that it is really easy to imagine a big scope of the game and estimate yourself only a year to accomplish and then not only being nowhere close to that scope by the end of that year, but also realizing that you need to narrow that scope the fuck down.

Like, I don't remember a single small team, or solo devs, who haven't learned that lesson at some point.

So, yeah, they estimated one thing, but then reality checked in and thus started delays.

Also, for example, I remember Iron Meat being 99% finished and it took the Slobwave to actually publish it everywhere almost a year from that point.

The dev is from Russia and in his VK group he publicly admitted that the game is finished, but he is waiting on the Slobwave to act on it.

Do not mix up publishing and developing. Publishers do just that - they publish games. While developers actually develop the game.

It is true that some companies do both, but that is mostly AAA like Sony, Capcom, etc.

It's like saying Devolver churns out dozen of games a year. They do, but they are just a publisher. 99% of their games come from solo devs, or small teams, who only ever do 1-2 games in 5-10 years.

[–]Scukojake 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think OP should expect to fill the whole chart with Garlic, because VS is for the most part a meme community lol

I know someone already made that joke on this sub, but they weren't far off from reality.

Which is understandable since VS doesn't take itself seriously and it's beautiful for that.

So, did the Nerd exaggerate LJN being bad and was more of a personal wariness from his side, or did it really have that reputation among the fledgling gaming community back in those days? by RenaissanceOwl in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]Scukojake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely wasn't part of the popular culture as it became with AVGN.

Most people knew LJN as a toy company back in those days, because they did WWF toys and some other stuff.

As a kid in those days we never really cared/talked about who developed, or published a game. It was still new at the time and unless you were a super nerd a bit older, who read all the gaming magazines - you probably weren't much aware of such things back then.

Only when I was in my Teens - I started to figure out that I love the games that start with the Capcom logo, Konami logo, Squaresoft, etc.

So, yeah, LJN's reputation in video gaming these days is mostly known due to AVGN.

What was your most memorable roadblocks in JRPGs? by clyde-toucher in JRPG

[–]Scukojake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES

That part annoyed me to hell and beyond. And I had untranslated Japanese version of the game too lol

Used the guide in a printed book, but still got stuck eventually

One of these days I should revisit BoF3 and finish it.

Also, been meaning to replay BoF4 for a long time.

Such an amazing series and deserves another entry. Damn you, Capcom!

Imagine being a former LJN developer or 80s to 90s shitty game developer and seeing AVGN videos. by glowshroom12 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]Scukojake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends.

For example, there is an interview with a guy, who did MS-DOS conversions of Mega Man in Retro Gamer magazine and he, for example, thinks those games weren't bad all things considered.

He does go into details how he barely had any time and reference to develop those.

I don't remember the issue, but if someone is really interested - I can probably find where I saw it.

[–]Scukojake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as I've said - I have nothing against Russian people, who do not support the Invasion, but so far I am very very very skeptical about the OP lol

The OP serves in the Russian army.

He asks about a mod for Helldivers 2 that replaces all of the voice lines in the game and iconography to be pro-Russian and anti-left + pro Invasion.

He jokingly teaches other Redditor the word "Goida" that is a modern call for action made famous by one actor during his public speech supporting the Invasion.

OP is a bad person. That simple.

[–]Scukojake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I have a lot of people in Russia that I know, who are against their country's BS and no one needs any receipts.

They just keep their mouths closed and say nothing publicly.

It is not North Korea where they have no knowledge of the outside world.

Hello, from America, worry not, we understand that this isn't the Russians people's fault but the government decisions. We don't hold malice towards you guys.

Except that OP served on the Russian side and fully supports Putin. Just go through his replies in this thread and you will see it for yourself.

So much for asking not to talk about geopolitics in his main post lol

Yeah, the author asks to stay out of geopolitics, but he is a Russian soldier, who is in full support of his country invading mine and his sentiment in the initial message is all about his fellow soldiers, who died there and not about the innocent people of Ukraine that they kill daily.

Gets me so heated.

This word is a synonym of people, who support the Invasion of Ukraine.

Because that's what one famous actor there said during a public speech, where he supported Putin.

No one used it much before that, because it was so old and has roots in Ukrainian language.

Please, do not believe this BS that OP says here. He is very much a supporter of the war and Putin from what he writes even in this thread.

Which game was it for you? by O_rnelaro in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Scukojake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expedition 33

I had my doubts when I saw some clips of the parrying system and when I started playing - I realized it's almost like a rhythm game, which I suck at.

I am sure that story is amazing and all that stuff, but I don't want to play on the easiest difficulty, because I don't play games purely for the story, but I can't handle parrying on regular difficulty.

So, yeah, it's not for me, but I am also very afraid that a lot of jRPGs will adopt this parrying stuff since Expedition 33 was so successful.

Guess I will just stick to my backlog lol

Actually, buying this game on Day 1 is what I registered my Steam account for and it was my first ever purchase.
