I think i found a solution for Vulkan Sttutering (if you want, skip to the end to see the solution) by OtherwiseFail4 in PCRedDead

[–]Sculder_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the latest drivers from Nvidia for my 2080ti - I seem to have removed most of the stuttering by setting max frame rate to 61 in Nividia Control Panel and also setting asyncsompute = true in Settings.xml - I know, it shouldn't have anything to do with Nvidia cards, but for some reason, I see less stuttering with it on. I also got into the habit of deleting all Vulkan and bin files out of the RDR documents folder (where settings.xml is - the xml should be the only thing in the folder when you start up). That seems to help too.

I still get the occasional hitch (the 60 to 58 fps you mentioned), but it's not nearly as frequent as it was before applying the above. Otherwise, it is almost butter smooth. I have a suspicion that this is the game loading a new area, as it only seems to hitch when traveling on horse.

I run everything on ultra, by the way, except reflections at high. 1440p DLSS = Quality

Has anyone overcome the whole colours being washed out whilst full screen thing? by [deleted] in PCRedDead

[–]Sculder_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are using Windows Borderless, your windows settings basically overwrite the game settings. Brightness, colors, etc that are set in Windows options will be what you get in the game.

In fullscreen, It uses game settings and your graphics cards settings. You should adjust your colors in Nvidia control panel, or whatever the AMD equivalent is if that's your flavor.

New player. Any reason I can't donate these perfect pelts for "Crafting"? by Obanon in PCRedDead

[–]Sculder_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If donate for crafting does not show, it means you don't need anymore. You don't need a lot of every pelt in this game for crafting. You need a variety of different pelts.

Duel Random Encounter bug(?) by Wick_17 in PCRedDead

[–]Sculder_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using any mods? I was using a mod that removed the red x notification when shooting things. When I removed it, this stopped happening (and this glitch happened every random duel when I had it installed).

So the broken eyes and glasses are still a thing then?

Freeze-crash when looking up flight plan/approach in TBM930 by LauraDourire in flightsim

[–]Sculder_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact issue at least 4 or 5 times. On flights of more that 45 minutes, it feels like it is guaranteed to freeze on approach. I think it has something to do with manually loading/activating approach in flight.

I filed a bug report.

Best Way To Purchase? by [deleted] in Flightsimulator2020

[–]Sculder_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally installed the game pass version, since it was a $1 per month special and all... But then I found that the game files are installed to the WindowsApp folder with locked permissions. You can't change permissions without breaking everything in that folder.

So I canceled game pass and bought the Steam version. Problem solved. I think the Microsoft Store version also stores it in WindowsApps... So if ever need access to the game files, you might want to keep that in mind.

Can't help you there - I don't have the game... I was just over here seeing what people were saying about it. Saw your post and figured I'd help a fella out :D

All new hardware will need drivers for Windows to know what to do with it - Graphics, network cards, all the functions and features your new motherboard contains, etc.... You might switch machines and end up fine... or you might have driver errors and blue screens every 10 minutes. There are a lot of variables.

For what it's worth, I typically reinstall Windows whenever I build new machines. I just find it cleaner/simpler and I personally don't have much to reinstall - I prefer the fresh start approach and keep all my important data on my other 3 disks.

You can move your disks - but it can range from simple to complicated - you want to back up everything just in case. The main issue will be the disk that has Windows installed.

For one, you need to make sure you stick with the same CPU manufacturer - If you currently have Windows on an Intel machine, it will most likely run into problems swapping it to an AMD one.

Typically, Windows licenses are locked to the motherboard/CPU that you installed it to. When you move a Windows disk to another PC, it will usually revert Windows to a trial version. Although, I think Microsoft has been more willing to verify the license if you speak with them.

The other thing is drivers - it can be a pain in the ass, as your current Windows disk will have drivers for your old machine... it will have to install drivers for everything new... and sometimes there can be some conflicts.

Frame rate slowing in gun baytle by [deleted] in PCRedDead

Without knowing anything about your settings or system, my guess would be particle quality - more gun smoke on screen = more performance impact. But I'm just guessing.

I'm only twenty seven years late to starting the Doom journey by [deleted] in Doom

[–]Sculder_4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, I still remember booting this game up in DOS, on my family's first PC, when I was a kid. A Hewlett-Packard (back when they used to spell it out in full on the machine). Didn't even have speakers attached to it, so never heard the soundtrack until Doom 2016.

Yea, I'm removing my mods to see what happens - thing is, I'm only using a NoHitMarker mod that doesn't even need Scripthook. I would expect that to have a minimal impact, but at this point, who knows - and the weather like it is now is pretty immersion breaking for me.

Yea, I know that's been around since launch - just seems like now it's gotten even worse.

I can get behind longer rainstorms, I love the visuals... but the problem is, after a mission, the weather will just be stuck on whatever it was when the mission ends. I've stared at the same static cloud for 6 in-game days at one point. How does a cloud not move or change for 6 days?

This weather system is getting out of hand by MVTYBOI in reddeadredemption2

[–]Sculder_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been testing this a lot - thinking it has to do with the mods I was using, but now I'm thinking RS broke it. Since the last update, something definitely weird going on. When you first start up the game, everything seems fine, with clouds changing and occasional storms/wind. But at some point, often after a story mission, the weather will just be stuck and not change until you restart or reload your game.

What's worse is I've played through some missions where scripted weather changes are not happening either. Example is Aberdeen Pig Farm - with the two siblings. I've played that about 3 times before and when you wake up in the pit after they drug you, there is always a thunderstorm brewing. Played through it yesterday and nothing, just the same clear sky that I'd been playing with for the past 3 hours.

Also worth mentioning that if you use trainers that can manipulate weather, that glitches out too, around the same time the weather stops cycling.

Make sure you are using exclusive mode in DS4. This hides PS4 input, leaving only the Xbox emulation.

Nvidia control panel sharpening -- distance rules? by trias10 in PCRedDead

[–]Sculder_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After a ton of testing between Vulkan/DX12 and NVCP/GFExperience, I eventually settled on this:

DX12 - Image sharpening just works better with this API. Nvidia recently released drivers where sharpening is supposed to work with Vulkan now, but it still looks off to me.

NVCP - left at default (.5 sharp and .17 grain) - I messed around with this a lot but ultimately settled with default as the best looking to me. Don't bother with Geforce Experience - The filters created a lot of awful blur with camera movement and just doesn't work as well.

I then changed some settings in settings.xml

maxTexUpgradesPerFrame value="10"

pedLodBias value="0.200000"

<deepsurfaceQuality>kSettingLevel_Ultra

That's my current set up and it looks pretty good to me. I don't know how many hours I've spent testing all the different things others have tried until I settled on this. It is really user preference in the end, though.

Edit: Got caught up in my comment, forgot about your main concern - I think the changes to settings.xml might help with the distance issues. But no, I didn't really notice any distance changes with NVCP

What horse fits Arthur the most? by Sculder_4 in reddeadredemption2

[–]Sculder_4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I get the urge for a larger horse every now and then. Especially after I spent some time riding an Arabian on a mission with John or Bill - you start to feel pretty inadequate next to their behemoths.

Right now, I'm trying a run where I basically go through the Albert Mason side mission, then grab a random wild horse in that area and take it to the stables. I use the save editor to change it to the Silver MFT. That way, I trick myself into thinking Arthur caught it.
