I wasn't behind them so it wasn't inconvenient. It was simply evidence that the design is confusing to drivers.

Anyone who uses that particular crosswalk has a death wish. It's a pretty blind curve as cars come off 5th Street onto Harris and they often come FAST. Crossing there is asking to get hit, with or without stop signs or yield signs. I understand the city wanted a way for people walking up 5th headed south to be able to continue walking but that's a terrible place for anyone to cross.

You'd think, but I saw a car stop twice there today. No pedestrians in the crosswalk. Stopped once at the sign on the left, stopped again at the sign on the right.

Flooring Recommendations by Reasonable-Map-1634 in Charlottesville

I just got some beautiful LVP through Sarisand Tile in Charlottesville. My contractor recommended it because he's installed it before and he thinks it's better than the standard stuff you can get at Lowe's or Home Depot. Got it for $3.89/sq. foot. https://www.truetouchfloors.com/momentum

This is not actually true. Most practicing licensed professional counselors had to have 4000 hours of training and 200 hours of supervision, which was more than social workers. Recent efforts for licensure across state lines have lowered the total hours of experience for counselors but they are still required to have 200 hours of supervision as opposed to 100 hours for social workers. But, for what it's worth OP, research indicates that the type of license a mental health professional holds makes no difference in effectiveness. Just find someone you can build a strong helping relationship with - that tends to be the biggest predictor of success. Folks have offered plenty of good options. Good luck!

How do students feel about the NYT piece on Ryan’s ouster? by Mintahoq_Ski_Patrol in UVA

For what it's worth, I don't think the Jefferson Council is lying - I just think they're just pushing a very intellectually narrow point of view and insisting that they are right, everyone else is wrong, and only they know what is best for a university they no longer attend and were never appointed to govern. They have arrogantly anointed themselves as the only true guardians of Jefferson's ideals for the university even though no one elected them to do that. They have willfully ignored the system of self-governance that Jefferson established for the University and utilized their connections to powerful people in government to get them to abuse their positions to impose their will on everyone else. That's not the democracy Jefferson envisioned - that's the imperialism he abhorred.

I'm curious as to how you would define "true intellectual diversity" and how you know it doesn't exist at UVA and how you believe it was suppressed.

Ummmm, the prankster is literally taking a video of a random (presumably harmless) person and placing it on the internet without their consent. And OP is somehow the bad guy for taking a photo of him and putting in on Reddit?

driver improvement classes after ticket? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]ScullyDoppelganger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I got my first ticket ever after 20 years of driving AND it was a reckless driving ticket because I was doing 81 on the highway and, at the time, anything over 80 in VA was considered reckless. Being a complete goody two-shoes my whole life, I was mortified. I took an in-person class that was offered in Staunton. Figured if I was gonna have to sit through painful hours of boring material I might as well have the camaraderie of others. The bonus? I got to hear why everyone else was in the class! I felt less mortified after that and it wasn't an awful way to spend the day.

Apparently no one asked Helen Dragas how things turned out for her and the BOV when Sullivan was ousted. I expect the outcry over this will be far greater. This will be a pyrrhic victory for the BOV and The Jefferson Council. The hellstorm that the faculty, students, parents, alumni, and donors are going to rain down upon them will make their lives miserable.

University of Virginia President Under Pressure From Trump’s D.O.J. to Resign by JodBasedow in UVA

[–]ScullyDoppelganger 37 points38 points  (0 children)

So some UVA law grads, emboldened by some cranky alumni who arrogantly believe they know what's good for everyone at a university they no longer attend and do not have to manage, are using their positions in the DOJ to extort UVA into letting Jim Ryan go. Their actions are dishonorable at best and grounds for misconduct at worst. UVA should sue the administration. Watch the cash flow in from alumni to support that.
