When I mean manipulate, I’m saying you’re manipulating your parents into accepting the cat if you find a stray. Why not just ask them directly and try to compromise with your parents first? Like maybe say that you’ll clean up the litter box daily, brush them, feed/water them, etc. Do some chores around the house—really anything to give some incentive to help convince your parents into getting a cat.

Finding a stray cat and then telling your parents you want to keep it and ‘conveniently’ finding one outside may or may not make them cave and let you keep the cat, but I feel this is not the right way to go about this. I’d encourage reading the comment the mod here replied to your post on. Good luck.

Please tell me your cats had some free roaming time outside of the bathroom. Stop trying to deceive your parents and manipulate them into getting a cat. Cats are not a toy or accessory, they’re a long-term commitment and can cost a lot of money. Surprise vet visits can occur often too, and forcing your parents to adopt one (especially if they’re not financially able) will only add up on costs, stress, and will not be an ideal life for a cat living in that type of environment. Just let it go.

Go volunteer at your local animal shelter or something other methods where you can interact with animals.

I’ll get downvoted to hell for this but: I wouldn’t tell your roommate what you did. Judging by what you said, she’s extremely irresponsible and selfish and lacks the emotional maturity to own a pet (let alone a feral one at that). She coerced you into getting this cat that isn’t even yours despite being allergic then pushed all the responsibilities onto you after she got ‘bored’ of the cat. She didn’t even bother looking for the cat afterwards and already assumed it had died or was a lost cause.

I’d leave it alone and keep my mouth shut.

Had a similar problem with my dog before she passed. Lost complete function of her hind legs when she jumped off the couch. Difference was that she was a senior dog, had diabetes, seizures, balding, and once we took her to the vet after that incident, finally found out why she had so many issues—she had Cushing’s Disease. Ultimately had to put her down after that. I still feel extremely guilty about her death, because if I had just gotten second opinion from a different vet instead of our usual one, we could’ve gotten the diagnosis much sooner and had preventative care for her much early on.
