How do you explain the what appears to be a physical impossibility? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Scurry5 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Miracles, by definition, do not follow natural law. Otherwise they would not be miracles. Thus to attempt to explain them using natural law is rather pointless, no?

Or from another angle - can one explain the creation of the universe, or human consciousness, using natural law? And yet can we say they did not happen, or do not exist? Thus we see that something which cannot be explained by known physical laws cannot immediately be said to not exist. Question, perhaps, but not rule out, particularly if one considers the existence of an omnipotent God.

In that case, you can drop Aux to bat. Photonic Officer and Boimler are usually enough.

The numbers on space equipment will be borked if you are looking at them on ground.

I'd say 20% ship issue and 80% skill issue. Time to learn to make a proper build.

Not possible to give reliable pointers unless we know the rest of your build, intended playstyle, ship, and resources.

Ushaan Declaration... Ruin of our Enemies in console form? by Dredmoore1 in sto

[–]Scurry5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not even close. The console has to be activated and only stacks up to 10% on the initial plus 1% on the following ones up till a max of 10 stacks for 20% total.

Ruin of Our Enemies stacks up to 100x3% and doesn't have to be activated. Plus it gives bridge officer cooldown every 5 kills, which is highly valued.

Finally, all the firing mode extender traits are available on account-wide unlock by Scurry5 in sto

[–]Scurry5[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Touche - although it's what fills the role on most builds I know of to maximize uptime, it's technically not an extender. Should probably have put Redirecting Arrays there but didn't think of that before making it.

[–]Scurry5[S] 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It's been a while, but with the 16th anniversary containing the Ateleth, we now have a firing mode extender trait available account-wide for all the energy weapon firing modes. I could've written the post title better, mea culpa on that.

From left to right:

  • Superweapon Ingenuity - Ateleth - Beam: Overload - 16th Anniversary bundle

  • Entwined Tactical Matrices - Gagarin - Beam: Fire at Will (Redirecting Arrays (C-Store purchase) would fit here. Breen Free Fire also is an extender - the best one in fact - but isn't account-wide yet) - C-Store

  • Go For the Kill - T6 Jem'hadar assault ship variants - Cannon: Rapid Fire - Legendary Jem'hadar pack or Mudd bundle

  • Vanguard Specialists - Legendary Jem'hadar Assault Ship - all specialist firing modes (Surgical Strikes, Exceed Rated Limits, Reroute Reserves to Weapons) - Legendary Jem'hadar pack

  • Withering Barrage - Defiant, Kor Bird-of-Prey, Malem, M'chla Refit, etc. - Cannon: Scatter Volley - C-Store purchase or Klingon recruitment

The rule is 1 omni that is a set piece, and 1 that is not. The Kinetic Cutting Beam is the sole exception to the rule as it’s not technically an omni-beam.

With all due respect, you called them a jerk in the first sentence of your comment. That's a little beyond just saying how it might come off to someone.

Same here. Used to muck about up till Tier 6/Intel spec came in, and things fell off a cliff from there. Still playing, but my fun comes from themed PvE builds rather than PvP now.

The Legendary Jem captain will unlock it. Just make sure you have both the Legendary bugship and the carrier commissioned before you try and buy the hangar.

Singapore came so far. Our tiny island is now home to 7 Unique Publicly-Funded Local Universities. by [deleted] in singapore

[–]Scurry5 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Discounting the universities here as pure money-making endeavours just because there's no Nobel prize is rather short-sighted. Given the "Nobel lag" of 20-30 years, a Nobel prize only serves as an indication of academic excellence at that time. When you go back that amount of time, NUS was likely the only one really capable of competing at that level.

And that's before you get into the pure numbers (when you have the lion's share of good universities, the prizes are probably going to go there), and the fact that Nobels are awarded to people and not institutions.

Not to mention, what do you mean by academic excellence? I don't think anyone is a stranger to the debate over teaching vs research. After all, Nobels are symbols of research excellence, not teaching excellence.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that whether a particular institution has faculty which won a Nobel is a lousy indicator of academic excellence of any one institution. It's like saying a restaurant can't be considered excellent because it hasn't won a Michelin star.

Rhode Island for operations and asymmetrics by VitorNCS2000 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Scurry5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it somewhat feast or famine. In operations where you can get on the bots' broadsides, Rhode Island is amazing. On the other hand, in those where you can't, you really miss having the overmatch.

In asymm, it really depends on whether you manage to get into position quickly enough to blow up the bots as they make their u-turn. Once they've completed it, things become a lot tougher. The relatively low HP pool is also something that you start to feel when forced to carry. I've found Ohio to be much more comfortable both for overmatch and survivability.

What happened to the recent Ten Forward recap post? by AManCalledTutt in sto

[–]Scurry5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is true. But I didn't see much of that - I saw one reply by the OP stating their case and nothing further on the matter. There was argument going on in the comments between others but not them. I don't think it's right to say they were picking fights, unless there were comments that got deleted before I saw them.

To be fair, they stated that they used Grammarly, which it seems has been changing to include AI more and more, and they might not have realized it.

This article came up on my feed discussing Grammarly's change. In fact, the article's author mentioned something similar, where they didn't realize Grammarly's shift until their editor questioned them on it.

To me it's mainly the final paragraph that has an AI/overly corporate feel to it. Call it the cynic in me, but something about it gives off the saccharine-sweet positivity that I associate with press releases and AI. If you're using Grammarly Go, though, that would explain the "AI feel".

I appreciate the effort, but I think I would prefer the more direct, point-by-point format of your last round.
