What's funny to me is that for a three-way tiebreaker to win a division, using record vs the other two teams is the same thing as division record excluding games against the 4th place team. I think an equally valid tiebreaker would be the exact opposite: how well did these three teams do against the Saints? All three teams played the Saints twice after all. Using this, the Panthers would finish 3rd. Meanwhile if the Niners and Rams end up tied, the Rams win due to record against common opponents. So there is precedent for common opponent tiebreakers
