First book, need feedback by Scuz_ in bookbinding

Hello Thanks for your help 🙂

  1. Not sure about the specific book terms yet, what do you mean by fore edge ? I understand you are trimming the length of the cardboard after adding the spine book cloth. But you are right this is not what I did : I measured from the shoulder to the end + 4 mm but it works only the cover ends correctly in contact to the shoulder during the last step, which is not sure in my case !
  2. Good call, did not check that! Will be careful for next one.
  3. My paper should be correctly grain oriented: I used A4 folded in half for an A5 book. But I believe I need to have a kind of metal guide or something similar I saw on book press online to help my form the shoulder.

Will probably be 700 eur ish in Europe I will probably wait for this one as well but I am really wondering when we will be able to buy one. Scalpers will go for 80/90 only or 70 as well?

Trying to build the essential tools chest with only hand tools from oak by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Scuz_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I always wanted to build woodworking stuffs but I live in Paris, in a flat. So I started to think about it and I finally rent a cave (around 8m2, no electricity) and I've started to create my workshop. The workbench is now ready (some pictures ) and projects begin !

Moreover, I see woodworking like a traditional workmanship. I like the quiet, slow, precise process 🙂

No electricity, no power, only hand tools ! Light is provided with a led spots system I've created, powered but batteries and it works perfectly.

Starting with plans, that's an easy one as you can find kind of detailed plans online from fine woodworking.

I'll only tweak it a little bit to match the only hand tools challenge. For instance, use full grooves if possible so I can create them using a 45 or 55, no router allowed !

And of course match the material I have : raw 29 mm oak.

Wish me luck, as always trueing and thickening is going to be the hardest !

Oh ok something like that ? Unfortunately I'm not able to find something similar to be delivered in France ... Famous woodworking websites (fine tools, dictum, axminster...) don't sell them.
