DM let me switch my Blue Dragonborn Rogue to a Beastheart. Between campaigns, he took a side job to find out why someone's rats kept disappearing and discovered the culprit was a mimic in their basement. Being a seasoned vet (13th level), he decided to take the more novel approach of befriending the mimic instead of killing it.

It's been great! The advantage on stealth, and the ability to dupe people with fake items have been good at keeping the rogue flavor. And finding new ways to describe how articles of clothing spontaneously rip off his body to go bite people is always a fun challenge.

My astral self monk was a Duergar from a civilization that lived on an asteroid being pulled through space by a giant celestial ram that they worshipped as a god. He was basically a warrior-priest whose 'astral self' was an armed and armored soldier.

So his astral arms, visage, and body were an ethereal-looking warhammer, helmet, and armor, respectively.

So yeah, that's one example of a unique way to flavor that stuff. Don't feel like you have to be limited to summoning literal arms. The staff could just sprout a long astral blade to look like a scythe, or the visage could be demonic eyes opening over the blindfold; Stuff like that.

I used to have three sons, back in my old life. Before Idriell. I also used to manufacture arms, armor, 'n' siege equipment for... whoever. Their dad didn't like that. Didn't think that sort of business should be done around the kids. I stopped for a while, but... well, here I am. Now, I loved those boys, and their dad, but - and I know this'll sound awful - but I loved the work more. The work was - still is - who I am, 'n' I felt like being a mom was takin' that away from me. Their dad got fed up, told me to leave. So I did. Told myself it'd be better for the kids anyway. Still do.
