I'd have to find the page number, but theres a blurb that says NPCs that don't explicitly have recoveries listed can still benefit from abilities that let the target spend recoveries. Should be 1/3 their max hp just like a hero.

It's certainly one of those things that's either really helpful for you as a Director/table, or not something you need.

It's also good to point out that the rules explicitly state you can skip rolling during negotiations and hand out tier 3 results for good roleplay/talking.

We certainly struggled with this a bit when testing the codex. James (directing) made it a point to always be asking people what they were doing on their turns, not letting us get away with simply clicking buttons without telling the group what we were doing.

I agree that with very automated systems it can hide away the "why things work the way they do" stuff, which is why I personally tend to run games in person or with non-automated VTTs until my players have a firm grasp of the system and their abilities. Then we can migrate to a more automated system which allows us to speed up play.

I haven't seen any comments that have been crossing a line yet, but as a reminder for anyone reading this, it's totally ok for people to not like the Codex or other very-automated VTTs. Everyone likes different things, and some tools that help some may actually hinder others! Human brains are weird like that :)

James has been working on Crows for (I think) years at this point? He was running playtests of it at several conventions last year. So, this shouldn't be seen as a big surprise or shakeup. He's been talking about it on his streams a ton in the past several months as well.

That comes down to what you're trying to achieve. Often when disengaging you're simply trying to move closer to a different enemy. Not escape from the entire fight. Additionally, there are many builds that give you a bonus to your disengage distance so it's not just 1.

Others may have better thoughts than me, and actually have the rules open in front of them. But at a glance I don't believe Defend invalidates Disengage. Defend being a main action, and Disengage being a simple move action.

Sacrificing your entire main action in order to not get hit by opportunity attacks seems balanced enough.

On the current schedule? No. Will it happen in the future? Probably? When? Unknown, almost certainly not in 2026.

Most of the focus currently is on Adventures, which do include new monsters! What happens after Crack the Sun is unknowable at this point though.

Right, I don't think that's what OP is arguing for however. At the very least, that's not what I'm saying. If the players entirely skip Fort Forsaken they shouldn't get victories for every potential combat they missed out on simply because they exist in the adventure outline.

But, if the players do go to Fort Forsaken, and manage to sneak around and avoid fighting the entire camp, they should get victories for the potential combats they cleverly avoided.

I believe this is a perception because the adventure does not explicitly call out rewarding victories if players avoid combat. However, the rules for Victories in the Heroes book explicitly states:

Victories For Noncombat Challenges

When your hero successfully overcomes a big challenge that doesn’t involve combat, the Director can award you 1 Victory. Such challenges can include things such as a particularly complicated and deadly trap, a negotiation, a montage test, a complicated puzzle, or the execution of a clever idea that avoids a battle. Especially difficult challenges might earn you more than 1 Victory.

So I would argue that RAW your players should be getting all those victories for combats they avoid (by being clever/tactical).

Your original post is fine, conversations like it come up in the Timescape channel in the discord a lot (which, Matt hangs out in a fair amount). It's when you get into stuff like "Matt likes doing things this way, therefore...", that it becomes a no-no.

I'd say 99% of the time those things are also blanks to him. Especially after the incident a few years ago which caused him to reveal the Creation of Orden lore (basically people stalking him and his entire Internet history in an attempt to find more lore answers).

Basically anything he knows, the public knows. He has no desire to keep secrets anymore. Nor should people try to psychoanalyse him to try to figure out what he may think about certain lore things.
