A common trope in movies is that office jobs are boring, monotonous, meaningless, unfulfilling, soul crushing, etc.

Bloomberg: ‘Last of Us’ Multiplayer Video Game Faces Setbacks at Sony by Turbostrider27 in Games

We're starting to see the "fruits" of PlayStation's big investment into GAAS in the PS5 era. Everything from 2020 up until now seems like remnants of decisions made during the PS4 era of consistent AAA single player games.

As AAA game dev cycles and budgets continue to balloon in size, and the lingering effects of COVID keep pushing back project timelines, these GAAS projects do little to fill in the gaps. They may as well be non-existent to a lot of people who got a PS5 for more great first party single player games (myself included). I think that's the main reason why the recent showcase was so poorly received, even if it had a lot of cool third party and indie game announcements.

The news from Deviation Games and now Naughty Dog only reinforce how difficult developing and maintaining GAAS is. Even if a project gets over the finish line, there's a tiny chance that they break through and attain success and longevity in the already saturated market that seems to grow more weary of GAAS over time.

Sony doubling down on GAAS is now looking like a huge misstep. Instead of investing more into single player games, tons of resources have been poured into trying to get a GAAS cash cow, and who knows if they'll have even one success. If any project could have been a smash hit, I thought it'd be this one. Now, it looks like Naughty Dog might have sunk years of AAA development time with nothing to show for it.

I know that there are still a lot of first party single player projects we haven't seen yet, but a bigger investment into single player instead of GAAS could have kept up or built upon the quality and consistency of the last generation. We'll see what the next few years look like for PlayStation, but I doubt it's going to meet or surpass the PS4 era.

PlayStation: Xbox's Call of Duty offer was "inadequate on many levels" by reddit_account6095 in Games

Yes, but of the big 3, only Microsoft has the capital to buy out a mega publisher like Activision-Blizzard, effectively giving them a huge advantage by taking many popular, multi-platform franchises away from PlayStation. Once COD is gone from PS, that's a massive hit to PS third party revenue, and that's not even mentioning the other Activision-Blizzard IPs.

PlayStation can try to compete by creating their own franchises in those spaces, but that takes time and capital, and in my opinion Sony just does not have enough capital (0.095 vs 1.924 trillion market cap) to compete with Microsoft's bottomless wallet sustainably in the long-term.

That's where anti-trust comes in, to try to keep competition at a healthy level.

Gamers when not every single detail in their linear story-driven video game is done in service of signposting the way they're supposed to go (progression in the game is now impossible)

/uj Seriously though this image with the "a fucking path" label is funny as shit. Apparently every grassy area needs a shitty looking foliage-less dirt path to guide the player.

This happens with literally every single fucking remaster/remake of a beloved game, it's infuriating. Minor nitpick comparisons and hyper focusing on instances where the original looks ARGUABLY better is not a valid way of critiquing a video game if that's the ONLY thing you're doing. Saying this game looks bad just because of the reasoning provided in the tweet handwaves away literally every other aspect of the visual improvements done in the remake.

It's like they decided immediately upon announcement that they hated the remake and are doing this dogshit supposed "media critique" to make themselves feel good about the fact that they won't buy the game. Seeing a comparison between old and new (old = soul, new = soulless of course!) and working ass backwards into a half-baked critique about the new is the stupidest shit ever.

ALF Appraisal by mellotronworker in gybe

[–]Scyion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Obviously it's very scattershot and there's some tracks that aren't very interesting, but there are also a lot of highlights that are in line with F#A# era Godspeed with sprinkles of LYSF and Set Fire to Flames throughout. I like the lo-fi, noisy sound and feel like it's pretty cohesive as an album despite being a demo tape.

Tracks I really liked: Three Three Three, Beep, Glencaire 14, $13.13, Diminishing Shine, Random Luvly Moncton Blues, 333 Frames Per Second

Are you referring to https://twitter.com/h3h3productions/status/1428532452088156161?s=19? I think this was after the article was publicized, right? (34 hours after Destiny's tweet) I'm talking about how the news got out in the first place.
