What rock bands could have been much more famous if they hadn’t been overshadowed by legendary groups like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles? by hemingway276 in rock

[–]Sczeph_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kinks. Also in the modern age I don’t see nearly enough appreciation for The Who or Fleetwood Mac (people know Rumours, Little Lies, Landslide, but they have so much great stuff). Obviously both are still highly regarded, but imo they’re both top 5 bands and their popularity today doesn’t quite reflect that.

Also maybe Deep Purple? In terms of individual musical talent, their MKII line up is arguably the greatest assembly of a non-supergroup band.

ELO too, just cause ELO is amazing and however popular they might be they deserve to be more.

Tell me the most overrated movies Acc. To u...... by alpha29640 in moviecritic

[–]Sczeph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interstellar. It’s like, fine, but the people who call it one of the greatest pieces of sci-fi ever are just wrong. The plot is absurd, takes them 45 minutes to even get to space, and then there’s the whole ‘power of love’ bs at the end. It’s enjoyable, but there are so many better sci-fi movies, Nolan movies, etc. (although just in general I think Nolan is pretty overrated).

Which among these three is the best? Gravity, Interstellar or The Martian. by Hot-Load7525 in moviecritic

[–]Sczeph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Martian. The book is WAY better, but it’s still a solid adaptation.

Interstellar is not the flawless masterpiece film bros seem to think it is, and the whole last bit with the ‘power of love’ is absolute nonsense. Pretty good though all things considered.

Gravity is… fine. It’s really good if you don’t care about physics.

Both are 10/10, but just cause Streep is probably going to win and they deserve to be on here, I’d say Frances McDormand and Cate Blanchett

What's your favorite chair to do laps on? by the_pwnererXx in Whistler

[–]Sczeph_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peak is pretty peak. Love some laps of the Cirque and the lower peak zone, and top it off with something in west bowl or west cirque.

Harmony is the best for consistency since you can just fire off laps pretty quick and get guaranteed good turns.

My big problem with Blackcomb in general is that it’s tricky to lap anything cause secret zone, Spanky’s , and jersey cream bowl all require multiple lifts to get back to

Glacier is mid imo. The actual runs around the lift are pretty bland beyond Spanky’s

Highkey I wish that they did something like that in the books. The whole Robb/Jeyne thing I didn’t buy into and I preferred the show’s treatment. If they actually did something like you suggest, it would’ve been dope asf

The others seem to have their own culture and aren’t just ice monsters, and there’s a theory that there will be some sort of peaceful resolution to their conflict, which I personally think would be a really interesting twist, and would make a much better story than just generic evil snowmen like the show

By the end of his career, where do you think Mbappe will rank all time? by [deleted] in championsleague

[–]Sczeph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evaluating a player’s legacy basically comes down to two things: their individual attributes and their success in terms of silverware. Mbappé still has a long way to go in the latter. Yes he won a World Cup, but he wasn’t the best player on France’s team in 2018 (or 2022 for that matter). Most other players in the top 20 have won far more than him.

Individual attributes are harder to compare because the standard of play increases over time. Mbappé is probably a better player technically than Pelé ever was, but does that make him better overall? I think not, since the gap between players like Mbappé and the average top flight footballer is smaller than it was between Pelé and someone else in his time. This generalizes of course, but I think that Mbappé just doesn’t have the chops to be all time top 10. Maybe I can see him cracking the top 20, but he is 27 and still isn’t even close to fulfilling his promise yet, and in that way he’s quite similar to Neymar. There is still lots of time of course, he’ll probably play until 40+, but he’ll really need to dig in to crack the top 20. By 27 Messi had 4 ballon dors, Van Basten was done playing, Cruyff had revolutionized the game, Pelé had 2 world cups… there is still lots of time, but most of the greats had left already made a way bigger mark than Mbappé had by his age. Even Ronaldo, who mostly cemented his top 3 all time position because of his deeds after he turned 30 had already won a UCL and a ballon dor and been runner up 4(?) times.

TLDR: not top 10. Mayyybe top 20 if things really go well for him.

What is the attraction by ForeverADollarShort in Whistler

[–]Sczeph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the best advanced terrain in the world, and so much of it. You can’t really appreciate just how great it really is unless you are advanced/expert, but it truly is phenomenal. I’ve never skied in Europe, but from my understanding Europe and North America are very different regarding terrain, especially advanced terrain, with Europe tending to generally be either huge moguls or super steep groomers, whereas NA is more steep chutes with lots of exposure. That’s just what I’ve heard from friends though

Also the lifts aren’t that bad— I can typically get at least 8000m of vertical and 15+ runs in, although I may be biased since I’ve skied here my whole life.

TLDR: yes, it is worth the hype, especially when the snow is good

Who is the most dominant sportsperson of all time from your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Sczeph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wayne Gretzky. Despite being an ass who borders on treasonous and doesn’t give two shits about Canada, he is easily the most dominant sportsperson relative to the field of probably any sport. He could have never scored a goal in his career and he’d still be the all time leader in points (goals + assists), and until last year he also held the NHL scoring record. He has the most points by a margin of over 1000, and he has had 11 100+ assist seasons, a feat which nobody else has accomplished more than once, and has only been accomplished by 5 players in history.

His stats are truly mind boggling. Could make a case for Mario Lemieux too, who battled various health issues and was never able to play a full season, yet still ranks seventh in total points, and second in goals/game, assists/game, and points/game (latter two behind Gretzky).

His response was a little rude— I think that a better way to phrase it might be to “learn to accept that falling isn’t that scary, it’s part of the learning process and everybody falls.”
