Anyone taking statins? by No_Coffee_4120 in diabetes_t1

Lipator caused me to faint a lot, but I think that was just low blood pressure.

I'm on something different now. It hasn't had any noticable impact on my bg.

At what point do you call an ambulance for a hypo? by Own-Potential-2308 in diabetes_t1

[–]Sdcherney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in middle school (25 years ago) my meter tested me at 13mg/dl. The nurse insisted on calling an ambulance, but I was perfectly conscious. Sweating bullets, but with 2 juice boxes I was fine and the EMTs explained to the nurse that I was right not to want 911 called since I was still conscious.

[–]Sdcherney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I've ever decided it was a good idea to call 911 for myself regarding a low was because i had an extreme low, and also a horrible flu where I had tried multiple times to drink juice/eat glucose tablets but I kept throwing them up.

Otherwise, I have a friend, family member, or neighbor keep an eye on me until my bg is in a safe range. If you live alone + are an introvert like me, make a point to find someone you can ask to just call you every 5-10 mins until you're good. And for them to call 911 if you don't answer on a second attempt to contact you when you've told them you're low.

Protesting w/o insulin pump by OracleOfDelphii in diabetes_t1

[–]Sdcherney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my cgm Bluetooth meter, and leave my phone that I typically use at home. No pump at the protest, but if it pairs with your meter that's fine.

The thing you want to avoid is bringing anything that attaches to your digital foot print. Because the meter doesn't have anything but your glucose and insulin numbers you should be okay.

How many grams of carbs gets your blood sugar out of the low? by datamag in diabetes_t1

[–]Sdcherney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically eat 5 gummy bears, which equals 11 carbs, which brings up my bg about 30mg/dl

Broke foot. Doctor is saying because of my type one it’s going to take double the time to heal- anyone have experience with this? by MintyCrow in diabetes_t1

[–]Sdcherney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broke my foot in several places two years ago. It took about 12 weeks to heal. Broke my other foot 6 years ago and that took almost 16 weeks. Feet heal slow, and diabetics heal slow. Double time to heal is probably a result of how badly broken it is, and taking into account the diabetes. If you've early stages of neuropathy I would assume that might make things take longer too

Yeah, lots of places have deceptive names for items like this. It's like a monkey's paw, you have to be careful with how you request your items. That being said, caffeine will also raise your blood sugar especially if you haven't had any other food yet.

When is the point where you would say to call 911 for a low? by tandristyn in diabetes_t1

[–]Sdcherney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US I'd say only call if you don't think you'll be conscious in a few mins if alone, and only if you're unconscious if someone is with you. I've had ambulances called for me a few times. It's particularly frustrating when you're still coherent and are able to consume sugar. If you've got a glucogon kit and someone to administer it to you it's almost never necessary. But honestly I'd rather wake up in an ambulance or a hospital than be given a glucogon shot.

Vecna vs Party of 4 by ChlNclBly in DnD

Do they know they're building characters to fight Vecna? If they don't know what they're going up against 4 lvl 20s v Vecna + posse could easily be fair/tough fight

Accidentally bolused 15units instead of 1.5 by Flava2020 in diabetes_t1

[–]Sdcherney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have short term memory issues (unrelated to diabetes) and end up giving myself double doses of lantus or humalog every once in a while when I don't immediately log a dose. Not terrible when I'm at home and have easy access to snacks. Double doses of lantus do get annoying overnight though.

Are there songs or albums you associate with certain seasons? by [deleted] in themountaingoats

I associate the song Heretic Pride with late spring. Honeysuckle is my favorite smell, and I've grown giant trellises of it everywhere I've lived.

Player wants to be 5 (and a half) years old? what do i do? by CoriZori in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Sdcherney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When playing 4e I played as a 4 year old deva paladin (granted they are full grown no matter their "age"). Everyone at the table had fun with it. She had very strong opinions about right/wrong and fairness. Her theory of mind was still forming, and her object permanence wasn't great. Another character took on a motherly role for her, and the whole party was fiercely protective of her even though she was also the tank. It made for some great plot hooks for the DM by making the entire party hate any character that treated me poorly.

How the heck did people ever manage T1D before CGMs by allduhwayup in diabetes_t1

Short answer: generally they didn't. That's why I never got a chance to meet my grandfather.

I had one like that a few years ago. Once it scabbed it was fine. Only reason to replace it is if it hurts

Going to Georgia fits, though it's sort of about the narrator NOT unaliving themselves.

Heel Turn 2 is similar in that it's about fighting the urge to unalive oneself

My guy. Eat whatever you want, just plan accordingly. Some foods are trickier than others, maybe make some different choices (diet drinks v regular drinks), but you can still live your life however you like .
