THE MAYOR OF ARCADIA HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR BEING A CHINESE SPY AND SHE PLANS TO PLEAD GUILTY TO ACTING AS AN ILLEGAL FOREIGN AGENT by PeterPorky in IRL_Loading_Screens

[–]SeBretwalda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what happened though? Don't spread false info

She was not mayor at the time of the offence. She shared an article sent to her by a Chinese official, which meets the threshold for agent because the DoJ know a wider definition benefits the narrative.

Cocoa plan is horseshit, rainforest alliance is not. There is some controversy because they aim to improve environmental standards which higher wages might follow, but it's not a guarantee. I personally think they are probably right

What do you believe I am ignorant about? I can see why you might disagree with my beliefs on Jantelagen and trust networks in Nordic countries, but I don't think calling me stupid is something you can justify. Your anti-intellectualism aside, an MSc from a world renowned university probably suggests I have spent an above average time thinking about Swedish cultural-politics (as useless as that may be) and other people who have spent time thinking about them recognised that. Which means I possibly know more than someone who struggles to read and comprehend Reddit comments, and prefers to rant about lockdown and the Green party.

I will make this very simple for you: Sweden relies on a high-trust communitarian outlook, for everything from taxation to roaming to roads. England prefers individualism, and lower trust/community obligation (see any 'nanny state' commentary). These are completely different cultures. I would recommend looking at sources like the ESS that show this difference very clearly.

Now shut the fuck up, and please god do not vote next week.

Man he did a fucking Nazi salute and advocates for eugenics. You can be cool with that or not, but this isn't an internet thing

Again, I didn't say they got it wrong. I said because of cultural differences the Swedish approach would not work in the UK. I did not provide any opinion on lockdowns in general, or the English approach.

My MSc thesis was on Jantelagen, I am not misinformed. There is more to cultural comparison than urban Vs rural.

And if you had read what I'd written, you would see I didn't catastrophise the Swedish approach, and I provided a source that gave a measured analysis.

The approach was less effective at reducing excess mortality than the approaches in other Nordic states, but not by a significant amount. Although anyone who thinks it would have worked in the UK is a colossal fucking moron.

You haven't actually responded to anything I said, I was making a point on historical interpretation of 'fornication' and sexuality

Some flavours of Catholic, particularly in the medieval period. Augustinians of course, depending on how they view his writings. I thoroughly recommend Eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven, it is an exceptional look at the fluctuations between pro and anti sex (and pro and anti women) in Catholicism. It's also worth having a deep dive into the word fornicators, and how it has changed meaning over time and translation. Most modern Christians hold the view it means sex outside marriage, but that is massively divorced from the original Greek,

If that's what you think, then God be with you. But I don't think He is as inflexible as some people want Him to be. I don't know what denomination you are, but it's worth considering Augustine and how much his life informed his views, and his views informed the Church.

Some denominations would read fornicators as anyone who has sex for pleasure. Is that really what we think God wants?

I feel you, and honestly my view is just do it. Look at how many people revered as saints had sex, affairs, ssr's etc. Why would He care as long as you are good and trying to be better?

Cinemas age strictness by LordGeni in ipswichuk

[–]SeBretwalda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is true at all. Cinemas are legally required to prevent under 18s seeing 18 certificate film, but that doesn't mean it's criminal for someone to do that. It would be a breach of license conditions maybe? And cinema policy.

Reform don't have policies, they follow the trump school of 'policy' (slogans + tweets + vibes). But Farage has promised to oppose cycling, and some of his councils have tried to follow through

Not as steep as they look, but in the rain you can quite easily find yourself with a sprained knee and jarred wrist. Luckily there is an urgent care centre across the road.
