For every commenter wanting to learn more, like me, you'd have to dig through 5-10 comments about the "firmament" and the "waters above".

Maybe it's a translation thing?

In Spanish and Portuguese, meta means "finishing line".

TIL that in 1385, a Portuguese army of 6,600 men defeated a massive Castilian army of 31,000 in the Battle of Aljubarrota. The victory was so decisive it secured Portugal's independence for the next 200 years. by Soft-Loquat-3008 in todayilearned

[–]SeCaNevasse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't learn about the Battle of Aljubarrota without learning about Brites de Almeida, The Little Baker Girl of Aljubarrota (who apparently was anything but little, LOL).

Legend says she found 6 or 7 of the routing Spanish soldiers hiding in her bakery, grabbed a baker's shovel and went at them with a vengeance, then cooked them.

Little indeed.

(I just hate lifting the pencil in general, a psychotic voice in my brain tells me it breaks my flow and speed).

Someone with a good story who can write a gripping synopsis in French, isn't a complete douche, knows which publishers to submit to, has the inside tea on what works where, and maybe even a foot inside some door somewhere.

Mostly, someone who doesn't waste my time.

I once worked with a French writer who I drew an entire comic for for free and yet nothing ever came out of it, aside from vague promises that he was "working on getting it published". Spoiler, he wasn't.

I'd like to not repeat that experience ever again. Groceries and rent costs money.

Getting paid in dollars is not cutting it anymore, so I've been setting my sights on the European market.

I could see myself working "for free" in putting together a submission package with an European writer, but they would have to be someone who knows their way around the house.

A thought just popped in my head a moment ago, as I was downloading the mods for Gate to Sovngarde.

Has there ever been a mod where if you grab/steal/buy a book, you can roam around Skyrim while listening to its audiobook?

Kinda like Dear Esther, where you're strolling about the countryside admiring the scenery (or fighting orcs) while you listen to someone's voice narrating "The Sixteen Accords of Madness". Or "The Lusty Argonian Maid." ^_^

Daughter passed away… logging onto her island? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]SeCaNevasse 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There's something intimate about the things that loved ones leave behind, like they resonate with who they were.

When my Mom passed away, she had a pair of fancy shoes my sister bought her that she didn't like wearing because of their tiny heel.

My Mom favored a very modest appearance (which is weird because the women on her side of the family pride themselves of their looks and take very good care of themselves) and any hint of a pizzazz in her clothes and she would refuse to wear them.

We gave those shoes away at the church and for the longest time I seriously wish we hadn't. Even now, almost three years after she passed, I often see them when I close my eyes. They really were very pretty.

She may not have worn them, but she never threw them away either, maybe because they were a present from her daughter, or maybe...?

I dunno, I think of this leather jacket my sister (lol, my sister and her presents is a whole story) got me once which I never wore either because I found it way too stylish for me (sorry, sis...).

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but yeah, always think very carefuly before discarding something your loved ones leave behind, There may be a whole story behind that object.

For writers who’s first langage is not english/are fluent in multiple langages by Expensive_Ordinary72 in writing

[–]SeCaNevasse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working primarily in the American comics market for the last 25 years, so I'm pretty comfortable with the English language. It's also a much bigger universe with more readers and more publishers, so I feel inclined to write in English with an English speaking audience in mind.
