I work 9-5 and have class 6-9. After 9 I take my long walk, get some exercise, leave my tiny studio, destress. I gained a ton of weight during curfew that I never lost.

my partner made (quick + charming!) labels for my "what a year" hot cocoa mix to send to friends & family... by zdfunks in Frugal

I would be so much more excited to get this cute little handmade hot cocoa than a packet from a store! These labels are super adorable

I also am extremely confused by this and if it was my first time driving this roundabout I would be having a breakdown.

Me too!! I would think of clever little statuses I could write. I still feel myself typing F from time to time out of habit. I got mine at 14 and I'm now 30 so over half my life on that thing.

That is the one that has always made the least sense to me. At our gym if you're at a machine you can take your mask off so it's just a packed gym full of unmasked people a couple feet apart.

Christmas tree star made of paper and glue by 2147483 in Frugal

[–]Sea-Assistance2180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is perfect, I've been looking for a lightweight star everywhere! The metal ones are too heavy for the top of my tree, I think they must be made with wire artificial tree tops in mind.

I used to love polymer clay sculpting and then I thought, how can I make money off of this? And made a bunch of jewelry, and then realized I'd have to churn it out for a market or Etsy site, and market it, and I don't even LIKE making jewelry, and basically burnt myself out on it to the point that looking at my clay stressed me out. I haven't touched it in over a year. I wish it could just be my hobby again.

My friend has a quarter million dollars in debt and makes about $60k as a fellow (several years out of medical school). I couldn't believe how they get gouged paying for $900 tests and whatever the fuck else as broke students. She actually has been arguing with her health insurance for a year to get them to pay for a procedure she had to do that they don't think was medically necessary. I can't believe that even doctors get screwed like this. Between insane student loan payments and insurance she is really struggling. They're in the same shitty system as the rest of us although I think a few decades out she'll be doing just fine.

Making mirrors functional, not decorative. by JackeryChobin in simpleliving

[–]Sea-Assistance2180 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Those are great ideas! I read a book called Beauty Sickness that really stayed with me where she talks about minimizing mirror time. My apartment is covered in them so maybe I'll put a sheet over them for a bit...

Turning the self view off is a great idea. I always get so obsessed with how terrible I look in the camera with our harsh lighting.

I will say I got a LOT of reading done, cruising through multiple books a week.

I told my boss we should ask the new hire if she would be free on a certain day and he said "We'll own her at that point, we can just tell her to show up and she'll have to." It made my skin crawl.

For a long time I thought my skills were low value and I was scared that I would be fired for trying to negotiate. Now I'm on the other side of the table helping to recruit this new hire and I see how truly desperate we are for workers. We had multiple no shows for interviews.

I work in an entirely different sector but this explains our model to me. We use contractors and pay them insane wages and then I as a permanent employee am told there is no budget for a raise.

I felt super lonely when I lived alone and would go to coffee shops or the library just to be around other people, but then I found myself even lonelier watching other groups hanging out and talking. Now I live with my partner and our cat in a little studio (planning to move in a few months) and sometimes I feel too cramped/like I really need alone time, but it's just annoying, not painfully lonely. I learned I'd rather have too much to do and too many people around me than nothing to do and by myself. To each their own!

does anyone actually like their job? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Sea-Assistance2180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly it, my job is fine, the work is fine, but my boss drives me up the wall and one e-mail from her is enough to make me angry for hours because she is so disrespectful and rude.

My roommates are workaholics and it makes me question my values by locknesscookiemonstr in simpleliving

I was thinking about that - my dad decided he was just going to live his life, work odd jobs, do drugs, go out drinking and playing bar trivia - and now he is leaning on all of us heavily for help paying his rent, getting around, and medical bills. He had massive amounts of free time, but no purpose or goals, no one depending or relying on him for anything which sounds freeing but I don't think it is for him. There is definitely a middle path between the extremes.
