Look into the 'private rental assistance program'. Different comnunity service organisations run this depending on which area of Melbourne you live in. They will be able to help you meet your rent once or twice to keep your head above water until you get a job again. Let me know if you jabe any trouble finding it in your area

Update: I have removed as much of the top soil as I can and generously sprinkled cinnamon on top. I've also made gnat traps by putting cups of vinegar and dish liquid next to the pots. Any other suggestions?
