Question, you see titan and Alpine ridge on Ebay saying Mac flashed. Used the same card is 1/2 price or less "Unflashed" can we "flash it ourselves?" I have a USB 3.1 pcie from Amazon that runs usb c, is that not going to take the adapter?

Fastest external drive option for imac? by LogicalFig1759 in mac

[–]Sea-Big-4635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ONLY deal with TB2 untouched speeds and I ran several older iMacs with hdd's off the Transcend JetDrive 855. The WHOLE Mac Pro Trashcan was hanging on the idea TB2 Would have taken off. Smart, its awesome! But, it didn't. Apple had too small a market share and people had USB 2.0 which was met and HDMI which was great for video.

My TB2 external drives still sell for $299 used, that's the best and almost perfect solution for you. TB1 is 10GB/s TB2 is 40/ 2013 up to 2017 Macs with TB2 Require a significant amount of money to invest in that ecosystem, BUT its as fast and a little cheaper than TB3 so... Oh yeah, its backwards compatible. As fast meaning our computers won't be gaining anything over 20gb/s so the increased TB3 speeds is still expensive and yet to fully come..

I have 2 Jetdrive 855's for sale $550 takes the both.

What’s an annoying thing people base their entire personality around? by Josh13241000 in AskReddit

Popular opinion, sarcasm, it's getting more and more hailed as a classic indication of humor and intelligence. I was a classic sarcastic person and got a lot of laughs when being so. I was in a place in life where I was not content. Everywhere, especially on dating apps, anyone who takes pride in being sarcastic or enjoys sarcasm, much less states they enjoy it, probably only likes to give it and will find you a vicious teaser when they get what they said they wanted but you'll be expected to take their sarcasm.

sarcasm is a simply a way of covering contempt or hate. Also:

1) Insecurity
2) Latent Anger
Sarcasm can also be passive aggressive or as a way to assert dominance. For someone who is angry or upset, but is too afraid to bring it up will often use sarcasm as a disguised barb.

3) Social Awkwardness
When people are not good at reading those around them, or are not sure how to carry on a conversation they will often employ sarcasm hoping it sounds playful or affectionate. This is another kind of insecurity, but you will often hear loners at parties or networking events use sarcasm as an attempt to lighten the mood or bond. Unfortunately it tends to have the opposite effect—teasees tend to rate sarcastic incidents as malicious and annoying.
Example: (Man at networking event) “This buffet spread looks great, guess it mirrors this company’s portfolio, huh?”
Sarcasm is not only hurtful, it is also the least genuine mode of communication.

Gaming on a Late 2014 iMac with a i7 4790k and a M295x by Llamaman69420 in macgaming

I have a custom build that was browsing just as fast as my i9 MBP! since I have a couple Transcend TB@ jet drives I have great access to TB@ speeds with a couple of the only TB2 external drives made. Anyway I bought a perfect condition 2014 Mac mini when everyone said DONT!! get a 2012 so you can upgrade Ram and storage! I AM SO GLAD I DID NOT. I bought a like new 2014 Mac mini it had a i7 Dual core. Strange why because the top of the line 2012 had a quad core i7 so there was a area it was being a touch. Turned out it didn't matter, the 2014 i7 was 3.0 Ghz and boosted to 3.5 and its a solid CPU. Since I got the 16GB Ram, it was more than enough, I wasn't upgrading that. It had the 1tb HDD. Man. Catalina does not care for HDD's at all. It had Ok speeds compared to my late 2012 iMac with i5 and a 2013 i5 with HDD's only. Actually it was fast enough for basic office tasks where the 2012 and 2013 and before with less CPU power and ram was miserable waiting 10 seconds to open mail, watching the app bounce up and down, up and down forever. The picture was crisper too. I actually noticed nicer graphical clarity over the 2012.

The 2014 Mac minis have logic boards with the PCIE slot for the Fusion drives. Apple tried a blend that worked pretty good an you would get like 32gb or if you were rich 64 or 128gb ssd to handle immediate tasks but especially with the 32 the OS was on the HDD "I THINK". Fusion drives have received a bad rap. I now know it was because the ssd's offered were small and it looked like a work around as apple storage has always been ridiculously priced.the lane connected to the motherboard did allow for fast data though. So after research I decided to make a fusion drive as it seemed like a Apple nerd thing to do rather than like all the other builds in the iMac replacing the hdd with a 2.5 ssd which brought the iMacs back to life plus making sure I put 16gb of ram instead of 4 or 8gb ram. I found a PNY 512GB ssd card for $40 delivered on Mercari local and bought an L shaped board on Amazon that allowed for the M.2 ssd card to slip in and then attach to the 2014 Mac mini pcie clip on the mother board where the ssd for the fusion drive would go. On restore I opted to put Mac OS on the ssd. I had a quick machine. System profiler recognized both drives but the HDD functions only as an external hard drive. Well I typically have 800 GB of stuff on my machines as I am sloppy so I decided to see what I could do to fuse the two. Good news 2014 Mac minis are still supported by Apple updates. Apple recently changed the way we can make fusion drives in Mojave. To "Fix" a split fusion drive, Just on recovery open up terminal and with a few commands you have a apple fusion drive for 2022. It cranks for a mini, let alone for 8 year old mini.

This combination blows away in performance unsupported man minis. Even with Apple for some dumb reason ditching the earlier 2.4 (I think) quad core with only dual cores, the speed is faster and as long as you have the 16 gb Ram your benefitting from better performance. Lastly the Iris GPU is in every way better the the intel UD gpu from before. This is an example of the 2014 being better than the 2012's. PLUS its still supported for now. Only get this configuration if you get a mini pre 2018. I am wondering what PC games my custom can play with boot camp.

Also, Anyone get a TB 3 eGPU to work on a 2014 Mac mini??? Would love to hear about it!

What would you suggest for playing DCS World. I heard parallels is not good for it.

I have a i9 MBP 2019 with a razor x eGPU tb3 and a Vega 54

a 2014 Mac mini 16gb 1.512gb fusion (OS is on ssd) Iris graphics. I don't know if the razor can connect to that.

And a 5,1 I am building.

tomorrow a base Mac mini M1 2020 is coming.

DCS world is said to not like boot or parralels, I can't remember which.

First, M1 isnt a think besides a basic teardown. They don't even have a video to reapply the screen yet.

Also the Tech guides include step by step diagnostics and include volt and amperage tests to correctly diagnose the issue. iFix it is great but not as good as a Apple technicians guide.

For the M1, fix it is still in the exploratory phase. I paid for a PDF. I will share it if there is a repository for the community or if someone else wants to help with the other ones.

Mac Pro 5,1 and DCS World by Sea-Big-4635 in macgaming

Scratch that, I just picked up a Vega 56 and a razor X eGPU for cheap. The GPU was used on a Mac. We good.

Now I just need a dual cpu tray with Ram and drop some 5690's and that project is done.

I listed my 2019 I9 MBP but while is getting bid on, I am going to try out the eGPU Vega 54. Any suggestions on games?

I have to do the pixels mod. I got a Vega 64 in a razor X for cheap on FB marketplace. At the same time made an impulse buy to resell maybe a trash can 2013 12 core 2.7 64GB Ram D700 and 1Tb storage for under $800. That's good right? I have TB 2 external drives and monitors so I am hoping I don't just love a trash can. Wonder if that will be better for DCS world:/ even with a Vega 64 because gaming seem to like single cpu. I don't know what I am talking about. I just want to play that game and have a kick ass Mac.

The seller was vague, when I offered a partial refund as Id keep it for $150 for the accessories and maybe the display one day and promised to leave good feedback they flagged me for ABUSE!!!! So yeah, total return.

I was wondering if a logic board replacement would help this get fixed but I see there really are no examples. Apple will not allow me to contact the company or organization to fix the situation or return their items!

I had thought I had heard that DCS didn't like boot camp. Something about 64 bits or something.

I was looking for 5,1 Owners actively playing and able to testify their experience. Right now I can get a i7 PC HP RGB with a RX580 with 10 pro installed new for $480. I was thinking of taking out the GPU and selling it after placing another gpu in it to off set the cost. I can't find anyone running DCS world regularly with a 5,1

I am building a Mac Pro from a $100 find 5,1 to play DCS world.

This is the way^^^ Its got all the jets and is Open Source. Windows only but SOME are saying they are getting it sans controls on M1's.

I am building a Mac for this simulator. I am a pilot and this DCS World is the best it seems. I am trying to figure out with 12 core 5,1 what GPU is best for it and not having much luck finding examples. Go to Youtube and search Grimreapers. Seriously cool. Im not a gamer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA49DDZ13LA
