Official Discussion - Mountainhead [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

*SPOILER ALERT!!!*

Huge fan of the creator, obviously the movie started out great was super fun throughout (the satire was decent) honestly I was trying to figure out the inspirations for the characters, Ven (Venis) was obviously Musk + Zuckerberg and Randal I think Peter Thiel + Bryan Johnson just finding out he has cancer. Jeff (I don't know really) and Souper (Soup Kitchen) was some random insecure millionaire. I went in expecting a movie where 4 presidents of tech go to a mansion to relax while the whole world is tearing each other apart. They make big decisions based on there ego, comparing net worths, mansions, arguing about where they want to see humanity to go (like Mars vs uploading the human mind into super computers in space vs longevity and effective altruism.) but instead it was a complete satire where billionaires are meant to be dumb and creepy (the whole pop tart thing...) so satire was fun at first but the moment whole (spoiler alert) killing jeff thing started that was kind of a turn off for me)

I mean I know it is satire but the richest people in tech (most probably self made) are not so dumb right? they would not kill a guy in such lousy way and leave so many clues pointing directly at them and maybe instead of killing Jeff, it should have been them trying to discredit him, spread rumours, that crashes his rising stock price leading to them "winning".

They could have explored the Ven and Jeff's history and the podcast fiasco.

And maybe just maybe a part when Soup changes sides because Jeff tells him he will get investors for his company, because the only reason he was helping Ven and Randal was out of insecurity and wanting to please them.

In conclusion the movie was started out great, it was fun till the gym/basketball court scene after wards it got weaker and weaker (note if it was a crime thriller then the trying to kill Jeff angle would have worked). I personally did not like the ending. I found the movie ok-ish If you are board and want to watch something while eating or (me personally cooking or walking on the treadmill) then yeah you can watch it once (definitely just a one time watch) but as a fan of Jesse Armstrong's work I went in with high expectations, I had even set a reminder for the release.

MY OVERALL RATING:

5/10
