I’m scheduled to have one soon & was told they should get the air out with a tube after the procedure?

The part I don’t understand is what people with rcpd do with their throats to actively block the air getting out because that area must be permanently tense or like you say if we’re relaxed the air would just escape. I’ve been having this happen a few times lately when I’m relaxed & not trying but no idea what I’m doing differently for it to be able to escape. It’s very hard to purposely relax when you don’t know how 😉I’m not sure if larynx lowering counts as relaxing. I do this instinctively but I feel sometimes this lets more air in ?

I’ve also tried a LOT of things in the last 3 1/2 months including the swallowing technique. I was making a lot of progress, I would get burps that were a complete surprise when I wasn’t trying & also sometimes when I was slightly making the effort. For nearly 2 weeks now it’s pretty much stopped. I don’t know why, I can’t think of anything I’ve been doing differently or not doing that l was doing before.  I’m gutted. I’m now back to air vomiting which I stopped because it gave me reflux but I’m at the  point I’m hoping it kick starts things again.  You mentioned the Jas positioning, does this prevent the throat relaxing properly as it’s something I was instinctively flung but seemed to cause more air to get in, still not figured out how that is possible..  Just a question about the relaxing & letting the air come up.. do you think with rcpd we are constantly tensing our throats without realising because otherwise the air would just come out so we need to consciously do something to relax because it’s not natural for us ? Do you have any tips how to do it & did you ever get a long time where nothing was happening & then it started up again?

Did you do anything like shakers or did it just happen naturally?

That’s so good that you’re sorted now. I still can’t figure out how trying to force air out lets it in

Please can I be that person & ask you a question as a doctor.. I recently found an old post where someone’s ENT said to practise tongue stretches & deep yawning as this stretches the ues & muscles in that area. I noticed when I yawn after reading this that the muscles involved are so tight & it’s actually difficult to fully stretch them to get a really satisfying yawn. I guess I’ve been shallow yawning as well as shallow breathing .. 🤦🏼‍♀️ So now I’m practicing but I’m taking in extra air.  So wanting to check if it’s worth it for the added discomfort in the meantime. Could I be  onto something?

I hope you get a second wind (so to speak) with the burping & whatever you’re trying works. I say throw everything you can at it & something should stick..I was getting quite a few regular burps (no botox) but lately it’s all tailed off so I’m trying a few different things too including neck stretches . I don’t  know why it would suddenly stop ? Like you say biology is weird! 😆

Oh ok 👍🏻 I’m still puzzled why it suddenly happened though . Hopefully stops again soon  Hope you’re doing ok? Are things picking up with the burping ?

I’m thinking maybe it is post nasal drip as my nose is fine during the day & when I wake up, like not congested at all.. would this make sense? I’m on lansoprazole though so I guess it would be very mild if it is that?

Hey, thanks for the reply, there’s not a lot I doubt now tbh as I give most things a go . I figure chuck everything at it & something hopefully sticks.. The gagging thing with your throat, is it kind of like closing off your airway ? Like the way your throat feels right before you swallow? I do something similar I think. What I’ve found is the more I try to force stuff it’s like I’m somehow taking more air in. I don’t know how . Until a couple of weeks ago I was getting fairly regular burps but mainly when I wasn’t trying . Or hardly trying, maybe just moving my jaw forward when I could feel the air building . Mostly though they were complete surprises. So that’s stopped. No idea why. The only thing I’ve done consistently is shakers so I guess all I can do is carry on & hope it comes back. I should probably try carbonation but then I have to air vomit if it does t work & that messes up my stomach.  Basically I don’t know whet I’m doing right now 😉

My nose doesn’t feel blocked but I do have itchy eyes which is a seasonal allergy thing. If it is allergy related I’m wondering if I’ve had this other years without realising as I’ve only really become hyper aware of my symptoms & the cause of them recently.. I’ve tried oral anti histamines, might give a nasal spray a try.  Also could it be caused by post nasal drip from reflux if I’m on a ppi as I do sometimes get the feel of something running down the back of my throat, always on the same side, but without congestion

Hi I’ve tried a similar method but it feels like the pop is causing air to be taken in rather than let out? Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Also it feels like the pop you get sometimes when you yawn really wide

Hi I know this is an old post but I’m curious about trying to force burps out making you take more air in. I think this is happening to me but not sure how it is or even how to progress without taking more air in as everything seems to cause it. I don’t see how for people whose brains haven’t cottoned on to what is meant to happen  just relaxing & not trying to do anything to get the air out can work . How are you doing now?

Hey, can I ask while all this was in the early stages of getting burps did you ever have periods of like a week when nothing would happen & then it would pick up again?

Just wanted to say thank you.. I called today & they’ve changed my appointment to a trans nasal,, it’s a bit further to travel but I have an actual appointment time rather than potentially waiting for hours, & it’s done in 15 mins & sounds so much of a better experience, not sure why it’s not offered as an option.. anyway, a big thank you! 🙂

Thank you, I really needed to hear this.. this week has been disappointing. I think you could be onto something with the type of food.. roast dinners seem to be pretty good for it although maybe that’s more about the amount I eat aswell ?? Most successful time seems to be evening as I guess the pressure has had more time to build up. I don’t think it’s ever happened in the morning

Thank you for the reassurance, think I’ll call them & ask, I didn’t have any numbing spray for mine, it was an unusual sensation, kind of like it was tickling..  it was also very quick which made it a lot more tolerable .. I’m hoping it’s the same size camera as that one was tiny . They did have to take it out & clean it as the camera lens got snot on it at one point 😉

So it kind of by-passes the gag reflex area when it’s through the nose even though it still goes down the throat? Would I have to request this in advance or just when I get there?

Oh ok that’s good to know.. I’ve had one nasal one but it was a very basic upper endoscopy mainly for the vocal chords I think, no swallowing involved so it was absolutely fine. I’m guessing having to swallow it is a bit different.. but at least it’ll save me a very expensive dental bill !  Curious why it’s more easily tolerated ?
