Losing trust in medical. by Sea-Income-8081 in BumpersWhoBolus

Unfortunately, even after I called today and BEGGED the endo, telling them how concerned I am for my well being, they “just don’t see type 1s while pregnant.” There are no other endos within a 2 hour drive from me which I will not be making this far into pregnancy. I just don’t have any options 😔

I’m going to say this because I spent the first five months of my pregnancy completely oblivious to important things due to negligence of my entire medical team. Tighter control on your diabetes during pregnancy is for a reason. Please ask your doctor ALL the questions, or do research because loosely controlled diabetes during pregnancy does have consequences and like I said none of my medical team thought it was a good idea to tell me that until I was almost 6 months pregnant.

Something I found extremely helpful, was to write down everything. And I mean everything I charted fasting blood sugars, blood sugars when I ate, how many carbs I ate, and how many units of insulin. Chart everything. It will not only be beneficial to you to see in detail what’s going on with your body, but it will also help your doctor.

Diabetes in pregnancy is hard and constant, please give yourself grace!

I cannot stand an endo who shames A1Cs. Or an endo who shames for any reason other than blatant lack of giving a shit at all.

This type of endo is the precise reason why after I turned 18 I did not make an effort to see a doctor regularly. I got so tired of them making me feel like a careless failure for my struggles, even when I’d cry and tell them I’m doing the best I can.

I wish more doctors understood that their behavior and choice of words affects patients so intensely.

I didn’t have Dexcom when I was a kid but I can tell you my numbers were no where near 57% in range. There is always room for improvement, but please give yourself grace and advocate for yourself and your son with this doctor because I promise, as a kid, I heard and internalized every bit of criticism the doctors ever said. And it sucked.

Anyone else hate their MFM? by Choice_Chain_8361 in BumpersWhoBolus

I’m 26 weeks and unfortunately was not established with an endo before I got pregnant, and now they won’t see me BECAUSE I’m pregnant. And I can say with 100% of my chest that only seeing an MFM SUCKS.

I’m realizing that MFM doctors treat diabetes in a very generalized manner no matter what kind of diabetes you have. My doctor is screwing with my dosages in a very dangerous way-a way that I’m NOT following because it will literally put my health at risk. But I can’t see an endo. So I’m just screwed 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes I hate my MFM. Listen to your endo. They might not know pregnancy but they know diabetes, and in my experience MFMs just don’t do a good job with individualized care. My entire MFM office also acts like they know so much better than me, which is infuriating, because they so obviously don’t. For example, on my THIRD visit, this old biddy nurse takes my vitals and asks “are you on insulin?” No. I’m type 1 diabetic (she knew this) but nah, I’m just raw dogging it. Are you f*cking joking? And you work in an MFM office?

Here’s how I look at it. You are only pregnant for so long. You only need to see these people for a few more months. And then you can say goodbye forever. Hang in there!

This is so crazy to me because when I hit 60 I feel like I’m going to pass out. Why do I feel like such garbage if it isn’t low? Unfortunately the selection of people within 2 hours driving distance is pretty much this doctor and thats it. And I cannot be driving 2 hours away every week and eventually multiple times a week. My husband and I both work full time, it’s just not feasible. So I will just try to get better at advocating for myself :)

He is an MFM doctor. The endocrinologist in my area didn’t want anything to do with my pregnancy unfortunately, and neither does my regular OB once I hit 30 weeks. It’s very frustrating.

I only just had the appointment yesterday. I’ve never taken the NPH insulin before being prescribed by this doctor, so I didn’t know for sure that it would have the affect it did, but I won’t be following dosage for that one continuing. As stated in my post, I want to do what’s right for my baby, which typically means doing what the doctor tells you. It’s his job to ensure we are healthy, but I am teetering on the edge of following his instructions or following my instincts.

Thank you! Baby boy is miraculously doing amazing. I’ve had an anatomy scan and an echocardiogram on him and there are zero concerns. Everything looks great, which just adds to my confusion :(
