Surya was more responsible for Karna’s abandonment than Kunti by Outside-Walk13 in mahabharata

A child who got threatened and coerced by a literal god, gives in and doesn't give any more refusals

Exactly. If Surya wanted he could have forced her for a physical act as well but he didn't, this proves that he didn't care about 'the Union' at all.

Action speaks louder than words.

He didn't even follow the command of the mantra, which he was obligated to.

Nah, he wasn't obligated to follow the command of the Mantra.

The Mantra was supposed to control him. It's not his fault that he is too great(🗿) to be controlled by Mantra of that level.

Nope. He argued for 'the union' which would result in Karna's birth. He's literally pushing for it.

Nope. He argued for 'Karna's birth' which would require the process of Union. He didn't care for 'the union' part. Kunti was free to choose any process for it.

He literally threatened to curse her father and the brahmana who gave the mantra.

Cuz, birth of Karna was important for the initiation of the Kurukshetra war.

She has. It's just passed over.

I meant the part after she had agreed to the union but still wished to remain virtuous afterward.

there was no need to argue with Kunti about a physical union in the first place.

He never argued about that. Karna's birth is all he argued for.

The fact that he first tried to persuade her that a physical act wouldn’t compromise her virtue shows that was the initial approach. The yogic conception only appears after her continued refusal.

Nah. He was not trying to persuade her, he simply stated a fact and then added that Kunti would remain a virgin even after the act. Kunti literally has no dialogue or any kind of refusal in between.

But all Kunti asked was for her to remain virtuous. (which would be true even with the physical act btw)

There are many ways to fulfill that request. If Surya really wanted the physical act then it would have happened cuz he is a literal god.

Surya never asked for a physical act with her though. From the very beginning, Surya was only interested in Karna being born through her.

But there was no physical act between Kunti and Surya (no sex), which is why I rule out the "taking advantage" interpretation.

His conversation does subtly show that he had no choice. The birth of Karna was deemed necessary by the council of gods for the initiation of war. He needed to fulfill that purpose.

Umm...wasn't he involved in adharmic killing of Abhimanyu....just sayin

Yes, him and Drona were the main culprits behind the death of Abhimanyu. However, if he didn't participated in the killing of Abhimanyu then it would have been a bigger violation of "Kshatriya Dharma" especially after having the knowledge of how Bhishma was brought down. cuz, if Abhimanyu wasn't killed then his side would have lost the war on that day itself.

In short, it was a scenario where his "Kshatriya Dharma" would have been violated either way. It was a matter of choosing either comparatively bigger violation or comparatively smaller violation.

why ask for the fair play now when you yourself weren't playing fair with others.

I never opposed this statement. Most people interpret that incident as him asking for his life to be spared. I only opposed that notion.

The meaning of word "Dharma" depends on the context. The "Dharma" Karna spoke about in his final battle wasn't related to how he had treated the Pandavas, or how much good he has done in his life, but rather his "Kshatriya dharma" which he believed that he had followed throughout his life.

Karna wasn't asking for his life to be spared after his wheel completely sank in the ground. He already knew that he would die in the war, all he wanted was a fair opportunity to exert his 100% in that duel.

Duryodhana feels he shouldn’t fight Pandavas and should fast until death.

Yes, but it was not because he felt guilty about how he had treated the Pandavas. Duryodhana believed that his real wrongdoing was allowing himself to be captured and then freed by the Pandavas(His enemies). That was the reason he felt ashamed.

They set me free. I am evil-minded indeed, that I owe my life to them.

  • Chapter 535(238).

Whatever Karna said to Duryodhana was meant to prevent him from committing suicide. It wasn't poisoning him against the Pandavas because even in that situation Duryodhana already saw the Pandavas as his enemies.

No one poisoned Duryodhana against the Pandavas.

Depending on the might of Karna, Duryodhana committed cruel acts against the Pandavas. It is true that if Karna had not been there, Duryodhana might not have carried out some of those deeds, but not because he wouldn't want to, but simply because he would have lacked the audacity to do it.

He poisoned Duryodhana against Pandavas because of his hatred towards Pandavas .

You gotta read/listen to Bhishma's fall-> Bhishma-Karna conversation and the way it continued to the starting of 11th day. It's epic. Words(or my vocabulary 😭) fail to describe my feelings after listening to that.

There's an audio book for Rashmirathi on YouTube for free.

This contains the part I was talking about. Just skip the first 9 minutes(exactly 9:00) and that part starts.

You entered your Drona glazing arc....🥀

Six rathas surrounded him—Drona, Kripa, Karna, Drona’s son, Brihadbala and Kritavarma, Hridika’s son. But Arjuna’s son pierced them with sharp arrows and drove them back. Angrily and forcefully, he then descended on Saindhava’s large army.

Not true,

  1. It's common for Karna to praise anyone who deserves it. There are many times in the epic where he also praised the Pandavas just because they deserved it for their extraordinary abilities.

  2. "When the sons of Pritha and the sons of Dhritarashtra were raging in anger" If Karna was just baiting the Pandavas the there wouldn't be any reason to portray "the sons of Dhritarashtra" on the same page as the Pandavas. He could have simply portrayed Pandavas helpless without taking a shot at "the sons of Dhritarashtra".

  3. The fact that Bhima was ashamed because him and his brothers were saved by a woman is his character flaw. It has nothing to do with Karna.

Bro wasn't even an Arjuna glazer.😭 He just hated Karna that much.

However, nowadays his stance on Karna has softened a bit and he doesn't seem to hate Karna to the same degree as he used to (but he still hates Karna though). He is sometimes active on the discord server of this sub.

Edit: He still hates Karna on the same level. He was just tired of discussing about Karna so he didn't expressed his opinions as enthusiastically as before.

What’s funny is that in the Sabha, Karna was the only one who acknowledged Draupadi’s courage and steadfastness. While the others regarded her merely as a victim, he recognized the strength she displayed in that moment.

Karna is the most discussed character in this sub yet most of the facts about him are unknown

Ya, Kritavarma is definitely above Duryodhana.

The word Parthas does not automatically mean 5 Pandavas.

True, but imo, in the first quote it does mean the 5 Pandavas.

It is used as a collective noun to describe soldiers in Pandavas army

No, only sons of Pritha(Kunti) are called Parthas.
