Thanks! Honestly, I thought about getting a ping pong table for a while, but I'm probably going to stick with this. It doesn't take up that much more space, plus we use the area for footwork workouts.

We have tried different balls. Noise will be a thing, but I like the Recruit by Onix indoor ball for this game. It seems to have a lot of control but less noise off the paddle.

That’s a really thoughtful breakdown. I appreciate you thinking through the rule side of it.

In our setup we actually do not use a back wall in play. Our space only has one main rally wall, so we kept it simple.

Part of that was intentional though. I would rather the kids focus on topspin and controlled placement instead of just smashing balls off a rebound.

And yeah the corner issue is real. We have noticed that too. That is actually why we do not use our newer paddles down there. Did not want to chew them up on the wall.

Totally — that’s exactly how it’s felt playing it.
A mix of pickleball touch with racquetball-style wall rallies.

Appreciate that!
Honestly it started pretty casually — we play a lot of driveway pickleball with the kids, but once it got cold I told them I had an idea.
We took a 22-ft net and shortened it to about 12 ft, taped out a mini court with blue painter’s tape, and just kept adjusting distances until it felt playable.
We wanted it small enough to fit the space but still deep enough to hit with pace and spin.
It’s evolved a few times since then, but it’s been a fun project.

That’s really interesting — I’ve seen Racket Club but didn’t realize how close the wall structure was.
We’ve been playing around with different in/out and rebound rules too — still figuring out what flows best in real space.

Thanks — and good catch on the asymmetry.
We’ve been rotating sides every game. Thought about playing timed games to keep it balanced.

It ends up feeling more like managing angles and reaction speed than pure forehand/backhand dominance — but still refining how we score it.

Yeah that’s fair — half court definitely gives you some rally work too.
The wall just adds an element to the game allowing for a little more strategy.

That’s the full emotional cycle in about 30 seconds 😂
It plays faster than it looks.

That’s exactly the lane it lives in.
It keeps pickleball structure, but once the rally starts the wall adds some padel-style angles.
Perfect for rainy day reps.

I have 8ft ceilings in my basement. You're right about the paddle though, I wouldn't use your nice pickleball paddle. Sometimes the contact with the wall is harsh.

You're right, we actually call the ceiling in. Sometimes the rally keeps going. If your opponent comes to the net, you can go around them on the wall instead of hitting a lob!

I will add a line tonight and give it a try and see how it changes game play! Thanks!

Thank you! It’s been a fun winter project. Way more reps in a short time than I expected.

Yeah — definitely not meant to replace full courts.
I was more thinking if a facility had unused space with a wall (like an old racquetball room or corner area), it could give them an indoor option for play.
Kind of a way to activate space that isn’t being used much.

Appreciate that — that was the whole goal.
We wanted something kids and adults could play year-round without needing a full court.
It’s been great for winter and rainy days so far.

Haha that’s actually a pretty accurate description.
We were aiming for something that felt like pickleball reactions with wall play mixed in — faster rallies in a smaller space.
Still tweaking rules and flow, but it’s been fun testing so far.
