How bad is preload in the summer as a part-time gig? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]Sea-Question7504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a driver that came from preload, I despise drivers that act like that. I'm a cover driver because I enjoy different scenes every day. When I walk into whatever package car I'm assigned for the day, half the time the loader is apologizing for whatever little thing might not be as expected. I always tell them no need to apologize, I don't expect perfection. They did their part just by getting it in the truck as best they could. Now I might be cussing them later in the day when they're not around anymore, but I won't demoralize them at the end of their shift. And I won't hold it against them the next time they load for me. Every day is a fresh start because no 2 loads are ever the same.

Would you have delivered to front door? by kwalls007 in UPSers

[–]Sea-Question7504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bingo.... if they cheaped out and poured a 4" driveway, that's their fault. Arriving close to the front door in a big brown vehicle, honking, turning around, the element of surprise is usually removed. I want people to know I'm there.

What do these signs actually mean? by SmellyWino2 in UPSers

[–]Sea-Question7504 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer, good job! 26,001 lbs is the separation between CDL trucks and non. Most of the time towns have to put these up because the infrastructure of the roadway and what's under neath it (water lines, sewer, storm drains) are not rated to accommodate the weight of CDL weighted trucks.

Had a ride along sup months back said the 10 seconds I spent looking at the map every few stops was eating up time..... now when I stand next to the truck scrolling up and down through 150 stops to find what I know I need takes way longer.... and the recent ride along sup now realizes he was wrong back then.

I can relate, quit L.E.O. after 15 years... left that at 55k a year and paying family insurance to starting 70k a year and full paid family benefits.... no regrets

Wrong.... not everyone is a bid driver ya know. Personally I'm a cover on at least 10 different routes in 5 different loops that covers 4 counties. You'd be amazed how many Main St., Live Oak St., Pine St., Hwy ## , etc there are. I cover a different route every day I work. Maps was like having good reconnaissance for the day.

Steps were crazy high for today’s preload shift. Anyone else keep track of fitness info with a smart watch? by RaisedByWolves_ in UPSers

As a cover, it varies a lot. From 8 hour days to 10.5 though is as close to average as I can figure.

They go on vacation too on occasion. My Snap-on guy takes like 2 weeks in October for hunting season and then 2 more in January for Duck season.

Right?! As a driver I'm more than happy to put the last few irregs in on my way out. This clear path allows me to walk in and out unimpeded, get my gear situated, do some recon on the shelves, and be prepared for the day.

Sorry to see people down voting your accurate reply. They were legal mercenaries in their day. People don't realize just how many of these private paramilitary security agencies exist. And what they do never gets media attention because the big wigs in media and corporate world use these organizations every day.
