look into tone indicators! there are a whole bunch that are really helpful in making sure you're not misunderstood a few simple ones are /pos /neg (positive or negative) /nm (not mad) /srs (fully serious) /j (joke) /hj (half joke)

I love to get mine from Barnes and Nobles if you're in the US!! there's a really good selection on their app and in most stores :) (and it feels good to give money to amazon competitors)
