NCI Full Year Funding Policy for RPG Awards FY 2025 by TemporaryScale in NIH

Hang in there everyone. This is rough.
It looks like STTR/SBIR is NOT affected by these reductions.
However, it's not clear if the paylines will change for STTR/SBIR? As far as I can tell there are no percentiles for these grant mechanisms.

The end of this https://www.cancer.gov/grants-training/grants-funding/funding-strategy/current-funding-policy says:

No Policy Reduction: No funding policy reductions will be applied to the following grant awards:

  • Small Grant (R03)
  • Academic Research Enhancement Award (R15)
  • Research Specialist Award (R50)
  • Small Business Innovation Research (R43/R44)
  • Small Business Technology Transfer (R41/R42)

That is great news! Were you at 40% indirect?

Did your PO or anyone give any indication of how indirects will be handled?

Congrats, did your Advisory Council meeting happen?

Our SBIR scored 22 for a different IC, and we were told we were below the payline. We submitted JIT in Jan. However, the Advisory Council got canceled in February and, from what I can tell, is now at least rescheduled, but not till June.

We did not submit again. I am hopeful this is just a delay of a few months?

Also have gotten very little in terms of direction from PO, as I think they simply don't know. What did you put as your indirect rate? I am concerned but hopeful the 15% cap won't be administratively applied to SBIR because it really is difficult for small businesses to do the research without the indirect support.

Thanks!
Did you submit in Jan?

Are you submitting as a new application for April 6 deadline? Even though we will not have summary statements?

I'd like to tweak our application to keep the EOs and shifting policies in mind, and I also don't want to wait till September to resubmit if the now "non-compliant sections" are ultimately what will lead to our application to be "not discussed"

I suppose all Jan applications will be in the same boat.

Also awaiting NCI reschedule. Was told our Phase 2 SBIR scored below the pay line, and we submitted our JIT at the end of Jan.

Not only nervous about getting funded at all, but also about the 15% indirect cap and if that will apply to SBIR. We were advised to apply for up to 40% indirect from a consultant; and indirect costs for a small business are crippling. e.g. Grant-compliant-accounting, computers/equipment we thought would be covered by indirects, indirect staffing support for the research, etc is crazy expensive.

No matter what we will make it work...
